I hope you get there! And do give Osaka a try! It's as ugly as sin, but the cuisine is exquisite!!

I miss all the Japanese influenced work in your gallery. Has a real nostalgic feel for me.

Love all the shots in this series, especially the summer one. The colour adjustments really bring it all to life. Beautiful shots and beautiful work.

You planning to ever go back to Japan?

Thanks, I have so many more to post! I think that the color adjustment kinda of gives them an old fashioned time faded feel, nostalgic is exactly the word.

I'd freekin love to go back to Japan. While certain elements of the society would keep me from living there permanently, I'm still deeply, head over heals in love with the history, culture, country side and cities of Japan.

I guess the influence had faded. It was so strong in the begining, I was infatuated, I'd never seen or imagined anything as exquisite as kimono and fans and samurai. Like I said, in love with the country

Where abouts did you travel?

That's just about exactly how I feel about it. After my year abroad, I'd never want to actually live there. And when I got back, initially I was glad to be rid of it. But now I'm starting to miss it.

I think I may be going back this summer to shoot a documentary with one of my professors. Kyoto and Tokyo. I'm really excited, and almost certain he'll pick me.

I forgot to ask, where did you spend your year?
I loved Japan deeply, but couldn't take the tatemae any longer.
Do you have any good stories?

Tatemae... hmmm

Like how my host family got super annoyed with me for little things and NEVER said anything about any of them to me. And then one day they pulled me aside at school to tell me my host family hated me. That was fun. I never had the textbook "invited to something i wasn't actually invited to" BS but we had LOTS of little moments where we were all like "WTF japan... is this necessary?"

Wow! I'd be so jealous! Tokyo and Kyoto are both on my top ten favorite cities list. I miss both places! Kyoto is such a fun town, laid back, friendly, but with a dose of solemn, spiritual beauty. And Tokyo, well, it's Tokyo, and it will flat out blow your mind.
You'll post a lot of pictures, right??

I will most definitely bring my SLR back with me again. I don't have any idea what this documentary is about, but I'll be taking pictures in my free time. That, and explaining menu's to the other kids on the trip. Oh, i forgot: My overseas trip I spent an academic year in Nagoya studying mostly just the language but i also took a few other classes (shodo, hanga, foreign policy, etc). We had a LOT of other international kids with us, so we hung around in little clans and spoke too much english.

I got to visit most places around Japan. Mostly around Kansai area though, so Osaka and Himeji were the main cities I stayed in. Saw a lot of Kyoto as well, Nara and got up to Tokyo for a couple of days. Still have to check Okinawa and places like Hokkaido off my list though. But I'm going back there late Dec this year, for 6 months.

Be on the look out for some Japanese photos in my gallery then I finally got a DSLR, after years of waiting, so I'm all set now.
Thing is, I only had time to visit Japan during winter on my last visits. No spring, and probably thankfully, no summer But I'll cop the full force of summer as I'm leaving though, so not looking forward to that.

But anyway, I hope you do get to go back there some day. I always loved your photos from Japan!
