I always try to understand and respect a opinion but some I just will not out of principle.

Now this I certainly agree with; reason being because... well, not every opinion is really "wrong", per se, but some are very, veryΒ ill-informed, to put it mildly.Β It just goes to show that opinions aren't always neutral and thus canΒ be criticized if there's a certain... flaw or two with them (though even then, you shouldn't just tell people that they're "dead wrong" without real reason behind it).

I wouldn't respect paedophilia - when a love for something can be harmful, then it isn't exactly respectable. However, I won't throw beer bottles at someone who is the way they are. If they don't harm someone, that is.Β
I won't respect racism or fascism. But when a joke that may be viewed as racist/fascist escapes someone, I'm not going to point at them, shouting how wrong and insulting they are. We all can be that way at times.Β
I won't respect those who believe that stress, depression and all that doesn't exist; that it's just a figment of child's/adolescent's imagination. Yeah, that really does suck. But... for the most part, unless you really are ignorant, I'll just skip that part and move along.Β

Some people just don't deserve respect at all. I think you know the ones. In case you don't, here's an example: my mom. Basically, I can't respect anyone that abuses other humans in anyway unless both humans involved consent to it (like bondage sex which I don't get but oh well).

To be honest, I'm kind of glad when people make their more offensive opinions public ("Hitler was awesome!" "Pedophilia is HOT!" "I wish all gay people were dead!"), because it lets me know right of the bat that this is someone I don't want near me.
It's better to me than someone being super-friendly and keeping that creepy/terrifying stuff hidden. o.o
But that said, I'll respect a terrible opinion, as in, I won't tell them I hope they die because of it, and I know I'll never change their minds, but I must admit I WILL judge them for it, and treat them perhaps not as nicely as I try to treat everyone else.
Also do you not like Pokemon...? I noticed two people mention that here.
