Description Ever since I first saw these magnificent creatures in a documentary, I was fascinated by the moa. What I find so intriguing about the moa, is that is looks so dinosaur-like. With it's large size, long neck, and small head, it may as well be a Dinosaur. As far as I can see, this giant bird was indeed, a true dinosaur.

The moa resided on the islands of New Zealand until the 1500's, when it was hunted to extinction by European settlers. Sir Richard Owen, the man who coined the name "Dinosauria" was the first to describe the remains of the giant moa, and dubbed the animal "Dinornis".

The only predator the moa feared (other than humans) was the giant Harpagornis, the Haast's Eagle, a giant raptor capable of even hunting humans.

That's about all I know of the Moa, there's so much more research to be done.
And I am eager to get started.
