If I'm not mistaken that's near Hakaniemi, but I'm not sure. Haven't been at that part of the city for a while!

Even before looking at the tram I immediately felt this is Helsinki because of the building to the left and the building to to right. The mix of ugliness and complete beauty

Yes, Helsinki is a mix of old (beautiful) and new (ugly or strange) architecture, like the Enso-Gutzeit head office building next to Uspenski Cathedral.

I thought the same thing until I saw the roman letters. I was in Helsinki and St. Petersburg early last year, both very nice cities. I'd like to go back. Also, great shot Pajunen.

During the cold war, many movie scenes taking place in Leningrad were actually shot in Helsinki, because the architecture is so similar (and unlike the real Leningrad, we were not behind the "iron curtain".)
What bothers me about this picture is that the tram number 10 seems to be turning to Aleksanterinkatu when it should be continuing straight on Mannerheimintie. What strange alternate reality is this? (Great photo anyway.)

Thanks. Yes, tram number 10 should go along Mannerheimintie... strange. There was some kind of traffic jam ahead at the moment, maybe that's why it turned right (?)
