Description Here's a graduation pic from with University of Glasgow in the background the Uni is the 4th oldest University in the United Kingdom, after Oxford, Cambridge and St Andrews. University of Glasgow is considered as one of the top 10 best institutions in the UK.

Besides being a prestigious University (because that's fantastic, but it doesn't really interest Harry Potter fans does it??), University of Glasgow is said to have been the initial choice for Harry Potter producers to represent Hogwarts. But the direction declined the offer of the producers to film in their buildings because the filming would disturb the students as it'd be attracting lots of tourists and curious. I don't know whether it's atually true or not, but a lot of Glaswegians ensuring this little tale is true

Also, a lot of analysts say that the Hogwarts described in the books by JK Rowling is supposed to "be" University of Glasgow (so the Uni would be the inspiration). The reasons given are 1) Hogwarts is supposed to be situated somewhere in Scotland 2) Diagon Alley was apparently inspired by Ashton Lane (a maze of ancient streets containing ancient tea shops, pubs, vintage shops,...) located just next to the University 3) Although JKR wrote the book in Edinburgh, the description of Hogwarts doesn't match with the look of Edinburgh University or even with Edinburgh Castle 4) her husband is an alumni from University of Glasgow. 5) and of course, the University building is one of the most majestic pieces of art and architecture in the UK.

I don't know if those "facts" are true or not, only JKR could tell but in the meantime, every student of University of Glasgow wants to believe they studied at Hogwarts

Other Harry Potter facts in Scotland:

* the Hogwarts Express is in fact (and actually, THIS is the train appearing in the movies) The Jacobite, an ancient steam train still running between Fort William and Mallaig. For Harry Potter Fans, the ride on board the "Hogwarts Express" costs ยฃ31 return.
* Hogwarts students' dresses are said to be inspired by the outfits we students have to wear for graduation (as the one I'm wearing on the pic). Every University, every school, every degree has its own colours. The dresses are sold by Eve and Ravencroft (quite a Harry Potterian name isn't it?

Oh well I hope you appreciated this little piece of fairy about Harry Potter! For those I know and would like to walk in the steps of the little wizard, just stop by Scotland and I'd be happy to show you around
