Well...I didn't see that anyone had done it. Plus this horse came up to me in the middle of the night and goes "Hello, I'm Jack " but his name was alittle to plain for me so...of course what do I do...make myself a Captain Jack Harkness XD. Because I can plus...I can make so many names for his offspring. I also realized making him I didn't have a single black TB..this is now fixed XD

Morrigan turned down the gravel driveway. Its what most people had out in this part of Virginia. Long hilly and winding gravel drive ways. Most of them led to old houses, sometimes trailers with barns in the back, typically a big field full of hay or corn. Or a cattle farm, since the ground tended to have more rocks than were appropriate for other types of farming or horses. But when Morrigan had seen the for sale sign at the feed store for a black thoroughbred stallion she quickly followed its direction.

She stepped out and looked at the old farm house, it was in desperate need of paint. She watched as the older man opened the screen door. She smiled, it was one of the things she loved about being out here. No one had big thick doors to keep people out. And if they did they were always opened in the day time with a rickety screen door just to keep the bugs out.

“You must be Morrigan” he chuckled as he held out his hand to shake hers. “You run that big ole farm out in Blacksburg”

“Yes I do sir, that would mean you were Clyde” she smiled shaking his hand “I saw your for sale ad in the feed store”

“Yes ma’am, and your interested in my ole Jack, he won’t do much for ya. He’s a old man now.”

“You’d be surprised what a old man can do for me” she smiled. “Can I see him”

“Course you can, he loves the ladies” he chuckled as he lead her to his small two stall barn. “Used to be I had more than this old shack, used to be a cattle farmer, but money ran out and I had to sell everything, cept good ole Jack that is” he sighed as he pulled the stallion out. “But I can’t take too good care of him anymore, defiantly can’t ride him. Ole hip keeps messin up on me”

Morrigan smiled as she looked Jack over, he looked at the Clyde with a questioning gaze.

“Its alright Jack, she’ll be good to ya.”

“How old is he”

“Around nine, he’s pretty sound for his age”

“I can tell, you’ve taken great care of him thus far”

“Yea, he’s never went hungry, even if it meant I did” he chuckled “Jack’s all I got anymore, well other than the grandkids but they all got lives of their own. Though soon it’ll be easier to see them”

“Why, if I may ask”

He chuckled “I gotta sell the old farm, just can’t keep it up. But Jack has to go first, already found a good family who wants the place.”

Morrigan nodded she looked him over “How much you want for him”

“Just a good home. Its all I want for him, no amount of money could honestly pay for him. Just a good home is decent enough for me” he smiled at her “He don’t deserve nothing better”

Morrigan was mighty happy she was away from the old man’s view as she wiped her face. “Let me go home and get my trailer” she finally smiled shaking the emotions she felt “Then I’ll come get him”

She came back a hour later, trailer in toe. Clyde stood outside on his porch. Jack was grazing in the front yard. His head picked up with the truck crunched through the gravel. She slipped out of the door and walked to the back lowering the trailer. She wanted to be quick, she could see it on his face that it hurt to watch his last companion walk away. She watched as he lead Jack to the trailer.

“Come on Jack, its time to head to a new home” the horse nuzzled his shirt. “I know I know, you don’t wanna, but you gotta. It’ll do ya good, to be in greener pastures with other horses. You’ll love it plus you still got yourself intact” he chuckled and leaned close to Jack and whispered “So you find yourself a good girl and you enjoy life” Jack blinked his blue eyes and looked at him then to Morrigan. “And don’t worry about me, I’ll be with family. So you mosey on up there and be a good boy for your ole man” Jack gave him one last nuzzle before he did exactly as he was told. The trailer doors shut gently. Morrigan felt a little lump in her throat. “Promise me you’ll take good care of my boy”

“I wouldn’t do anything less” Morrigan smiled “I’ll take the best care of him possible. Your always welcome to come see him”

“I’ll have to do that one day. Make sure he’s in good hands” he smiled at her “But thank you, I’m glad I know he’s going to a good place”

“One day you’ll see his offspring running around on the track. You just wait and see” Morrigan grinned. Clyde nodded.

“I’d like that.” he smiled and shook her hand “Take care now” he called as she climbed into the truck. As she drove off she looked around at the side of the country she loved. Looking at all the rickidy houses with their much needed paint jobs and the little screen doors always open and welcoming.

When she got home to the stables she looked up at her own house. It’d taken a lot of work to bring it to where it was now. She remembered when it too used to be a house needing a paint job. But grinned when she looked down at the front door. It wasn’t small like a normal farm house no, it was a big double door. But they weren’t thick heavy doors, they were two double screen doors. She unloaded Jack, who looked heartbroken.

“Come on sweetie” she led him out and too the pasture “I promise you’ll like it here. Its not like your old home, but its nice” she walked into the pasture and heard the coming of hooves. She met about seven pairs of eyes. “Guys this is Jack, he’s new, and a little down so…you guys take good care of him” She looked at Jack and unclipped his halter. “Go on, go make some new friends” he slowly left her side and walked up to the other horses. It was a typical gathering for introducing a new horse. A lot of sniffing and getting to know one another. And just as quickly as they came, they left, Jack right behind them.

“So who’s the new guy” Morrigan leaped out of her skin and spun around to see Danny looking out “He’s pretty”

“Next time you scare the shit out of me I’m going to slap you”

“Who is he Mor” Danny chuckled.

“His name is Jack”

“How much did you pay for him, Blaze will shoot you if its ridiculous”

“I don’t think just a good home is too much, do you” she looked at him. He shook his head.

“Nope I think that’s a fantastic price” he smiled. “So…what are we adding to his name, can’t be just Jack”

“I have an idea”

“I had a feeling you did”
