Description For an upcoming issue of a game 'zine.

My customer requested specific peoples as inspiration. So a Masai giraffe, an Ashanti okapi, and a Zulu zebra. (The giraffe is literally a Masai giraffe, and Cape zebras are local to south Africa, though might not be local to kwaZulu.)

I really enjoyed some of the research behind this - it turns out the Masai have an actual code for colors on their spears, and that there's a lot of really elaborate terminology for Akan soldiery.

This is amazingly cool! I happen to love African adventures, and I often write stuff for the Hepmonaland continent of Greyhawk, and also use the Nyambe supplements for gaming ... and though I haven't ever included variant centaurs, if I were going to, I would certainly include ones like these! Do you know when it's being published, and what the name of the magazine is?

Okay, this is for Nod Magazine published by J.M. Stater ([link] ) - so I don't know when the magazine actually came out, but I'm pretty sure it's print on demand or available as back issues.

I admire your skill in matching tribes to varieties of animals, as in the Masai giraffe. I try to do something similar with my Fledgling Grace series, choosing bird species that overlap people's ancestral homeland.

Thanks! But in this case it's not actually my skill. I looked up the costumes, but the tribal affiliation? Completely 100% my customer, here. Check out [link] , he's awesome.

I'm really impressed with the hoofwork here. Whenever I try to draw those, they give me no end of trouble...

Thanks! I think I'm actually getting a little better understanding how unguligrades work so stay tuned.

Wow, these are awesome! I could almost imagine the Giraffe-taur's thorax even longer and more flexible than most, with a complex system of muscles on their back.

I like how different each one's dress is. And the expression on the Zebra-taur's face looks somehow both mistrustful and amused - like warily encountering a trickster of some sort.

Thanks as always for sharing your art!

Light and laughter,
SongCoyote

Thank you - and the different tribes were basically the customer's specification, I just was able to look up the costumes! What I'm trying to say is that I have awesome customers.

Great style! I think I like the okapi and the zebra best. Love the theme. Reminds me of the old Nyambe campaign setting.
