Aaah! I have started my journey in Asimov's books just a few days ago, but I've already greedily consumed 2 books and in the middle of the 3rd one. The relationship of Elijah and Daneel (I love how their names sound in my mouth!) has always struck me like something very deep and beautiful. It's bromance in its most beautiful example, it's an intimate friendship and it doesn't need to go further.
Your drawing is pure perfection in that regard! And so well drawn~ Daneel is how he should be - perfect. And Elijah, an Earthman and... ah. Just ahΒ

Thank you for the compliments! ^^ I really liked your portrait of Daneel too. I must say I'm never happy with how I draw him, because in my mind he has to be perfection, and that... can never be achieved by a human artist I guess. xΒ°DDD
I'm glad that Asimov still has new fans nowadays! Whenever I stumble across Lije and Daneel I still feel my heart squish, even after so long that I've read the books (I was a teenager back then). xD I always want to draw them more, but sometimes I feel like the books have already said everything that needed to be said, and I just don't know what to add.
In regards to the "perfect bromance that doesn't need to go further", I can agree with some exceptions... because I had read one or two fanfics that made it perfectly plausible that there could be more, they were very beautiful, and I had nothing to object honestly. *lol I've edited this comment 2 times before finding that those fics are still available, I thought they'd been taken down by now xD*
Anyway I'm not here to convince anyone of having different headcanons. I too think that their canon relationship is perfect like it is, but I do accept the idea that there could be more in terms of 'romance', but ONLY IF very well written.

Helloooo
Aaaah Asimov talk, this is so unusual for me. I think if my boyfriend hears another "Oooh Lije and Daneel!", he'll throw something at me lol, even if he is also Asimov's fan.
I totally know what you mean about perfect Daneel! I'm trying and trying... he's too perfect to be put on paper, however, do you know the... Japanese artist Nolla? She has a huge collection of incredible art and yeah, okay, I'm sure you know her Anyway, I absolutely love her vision of the characters! Her version of Daneel kind of stuck with me and I'm happy.
Ha! Could you please point me in the direction of those fics? I've tried AO3 ones, but only... 2 really got my attention, but still didn't quite hit it. Maybe there is something out there I haven't seen yet

Ahah, actually, I've been a fan when I was younger, it's been so long but everytime that a 'wild comment' appears here on dA my heart travels back quite a few years. Old habits die hard. xD
So right now because of your comment, I was checking for new art on Tumblr and found this Nolla, I think I saw some of their art before but not a whole collection, until now. His/her representation looks quite similar to my first interpretation of them (with stylistic and quality differences of course - I wasn't even that good at drawing xD), so much that it makes me wonder if we were inspired by the same source? Wouldn't it be fun if they'd been inspired by my stupid art? xDxD I don't think so, but I do remember that when I was in my Asimov period, there wasn't much Robot Series fanart around. It was hard to find art on dA for the Asimov Club as well.
Long story short, back then I had different stylistic influences and my taste has changed so much that I'm not happy anymore with my old representation of Daneel and Elijah anymore. In fact I've put many of those devs in storage or in the scraps. This one is a bit more recent and I was trying to find my new Daneel, but I wasn't still happy with it, then I didn't try again. Maybe one day... xD
About Daneel/Elijah seen as romantic relationship in canon, I just now scrolled through this post on Tumblr that makes a point quite well I think:Β alcarohtareseere.tumblr.com/poβ¦
But you know, that was just for Asimov to say, and since he's not with us anymore and he decided to leave it unsaid, it's only up to our interpretation.
The fic I was referring to... Yes, I found the links, but I can't assure you 100% that it is as good as I remember, youth memories make tricks sometimes, if you know what I mean. xD I will read it again when I find some free time, but for now I can't guarantee. You're free to check it out by yourself if you wish though:

It must be nice to have Asimov's books at heart for so long! But I feel happy to be plunging in them right now, when I have enough mind and heart to understand and love them All happens in good time.Β
I can imagine that there couldn't be much art based off Asimov's creations. Actually, even now it's no easy to find much, at least compared to other fandoms! Still, we enjoy what we get, eh? I wonder if that rumour of "The Caves of Steel" movie is true. If it is, I hope it doesn't happen lol. I wouldn't want this magnificent book and its view in my head ruined. Or anyone's, for that matter However, if it DOES happen, then there will be quite an influx of Asimovian art
Oh yes, I've read this one! I didn't even need it, to be honest, to see the beautiful romantic subtext. Actually, subtext? IT SCREAMS in our faces. And I love it! I just love it when it's not quite... said.
Speaking of this work of Asimov's about Shakespeare's plays... I'm glad I'm not the only one to see all this hahaha. My favourite play is "The Tempest", and I think it has a subtext of its own, romantic, though damaging to Ariel, if you've read it. Still... Though Ariel's sex is never mentioned, I believe him to be male and I'm happy
Rant over lol. Sorry, it's not every day I get a person to talk to about thisΒ Β
Thank you for sharing the links! This is something I haven't seen yet. I am 40 pages away from the end of "The Robots and Empire" (I have a bad feeling about its ending huh) and then I'll plunge straight into the links you shared.
As for the ones I enjoyed, well, these would do, I think
one , two , three (probably my fav)

About a possible movie based on Caves of Steel... it's been rumored for many years (they surely had been talking about it eight years ago too) but there is nothing out there that proves it is really in the pipeline, it's probably just a rumor brought up by the hopes of the fans. Part of me agrees with you, I'm scared they would ruin it. But you gotta admit that if well done... it would be one hell of a movie! *_* (Maybe if made by a non-USA production...)

Hey there, I just wondered if you had gotten a chance to read those fics I sent you! xD No pressure, I was just curious to talk more about it (I don't find many people to talk about it either, you know. xDD) I haven't re-read them yet, but I found another of my old faves that I could share, if you want me to. ^^Β
I quickly went through the ones you sent me and I have to agree with you when you said they "didn't quite hit me". The writing style and characterization look a bit 'off' to me, not "bad", but kind of like Asimov-gone-romance-novel. xD
Some of the fics I've read (one is the first of the series I sent you) even contain some small detective case, not very elaborate ok, but it makes the story all the more believable and entertaining. ^^ There should be more of those.

Wow I can't believe I forgot to write you back about it. So stupid of me :\ Yes, I totally read all those fics you sent me I really loved the case one, though Daneel seemed just a tad bit too human in it to me. Still, it was ah so good. I love this kind of emotional explosion that took place in the end! Also, it's eh... pretty yummy lol. At least my hunger for more Daneel/Lije was fed haha. I've moved on to the Empire trilogy and I am counting pages till I can start on Foundation and finally see some of Daneel, for I know he's somewhere there lol. But I'll never be tired of coming back to what shaped him as a ... being? Human being? Oh Daneel, why must you be so complicated lol.
As for the movie, yeah, non-USA version might make it, but only if they give us what we need. And we all know what we need haha. I wonder if it does ever come to this movie, will they ever make the next books, like The Naked Sun? I need a target in the image of Gladia to throw things at lol. She annoys me af.

Now that you mentioned it, I remember I had the same feeling when I read it. I think the main issue is that the author decided to tell the story too much from Daneel's POV. And that is greatly dangerous ground. If they had used a more external POV, just telling what Daneel did instead of trying to analyze his thoughts, it would have turned out a lot more natural. 1) because it's too hard to describe realistically how a robot thinks (we don't even have robots like that, but even if you wanted to tell a story from the POV of a nowadays computer... how the heck do you do that? XD It just turns out too human when we try to interpretate it.) 2) because it's actually more interesting to keep the robot's thoughts as mysterious as possible. They are interesting because they look human but they're are not, right? And thus the more unreadable they are, the better. xD
As for the movie, if they really made Caves of Steel, I guess it would only be natural to do the sequels! It would just depend on the success of the first movie, if it's enough then I see no reason why they wouldn't make the others too. But still I doubt they're ever gonna make it. Such a pity.
Aww poor Gladia, what did she do to make you hate her so much? xD I think she was an interesting character...

JuliaToffy In reply to P-JoArt [2016-10-26 10:17:04 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I totally agree with you. His thoughts were er... humanized, I guess, and thus making him not exactly what he is, a robot. Oh I hear Elijah's voice in my head, "not a robot", he says lol. Still, he is and this is what makes them so interesting to explore. Robot being human and so much more. Learning to be more than he is. I think, I guess, I suppose that even Fastolfe and Sarton didn't actually realise what they did. Looking at Daneel, he is not like any other robot, I don't think even Jander was anywhere close. Maybe, like with Giskard, something kicked in his brain and made him... think so differently? Learn from others (as he was programmed too, but it went beyond programming?). Life is wonder and something we all don't understand yet. Who knows what soul lives in this creature.
Wow, morning philosophy.
As for Gladia, gosh, I don't know. From the moment of her appearance she became "That Woman". There is almsot always That Woman in a story. She annoyed me with her arrogance, her behavior, her character, her everything. I understand her many motives, but it doesn't make her likeable to me. It's hard to explain, maybe it's just a feeling of a sort

Fabulous pic! My favourite of all my favourites. Lijey has VERY good taste - I'd do the same in his place.
(how would Daneel cope with having TWO humans slavering over him)...
(dunno WHY you called this pic what you DID call it....?!)

Thank you! Since I'm a fangirl obsessed with slash, and since the bonding between Elijah and Daneel is so deep, it was only natural for me. I'm glad it didn't displease you.
Anyway, yeah, he is really difficult to draw and render... usually, when I draw a character, I especially keep in mind his/her blemishes, the little imperfections that make a person unique and beautiful. But Daneel... Daneel has to be perfect, flawless and beautiful. It's surprising how difficult it is to do that. >_> I hope you can succeed with your character rendition, and I will try to draw them again, when I have more time, and hopefully I'll come to a better result. ^^ (nice works, btw! I look forward the render of these two charas, when you do that don't forget to submit them to the #Asimov-Club )
