Verrazano-Narrows Bridge arches are shaped as an 'A' to represent the last name initials of Othmar Ammann, the chief designer engineer. He had also designed most of the other major crossings of New York City, including the George Washington Bridge, the Bayonne Bridge, the Bronx Whitestone Bridge, the Triborough Bridge and the Throgs Neck Bridge.Related content
