Background:
Cherry Pie grew up around food and music. Her two moms ran a catering business that often catered backstage for concerts, and Cherry loved to come and ‘help out’ by running around their legs and trying to get a peak at the show. She loved to dance, she had amazing rhythm and loved to write little catchy songs, but there was one problem. When she tried to sing she could barely hold a tune. She begged her parents for lessons, and they agreed, and she worked her poor tail off with both her coach and in every moment of spare time she had, but to little avail. She was absolutely distraught, and her poor parents were getting worried because Cherry was convinced her special talent had to do with music, it had to be, she had such natural rhythm and she could keep a beat like no one else, she could come up with song lyrics in her sleep by this point, but she just couldn’t hit the right notes. Her parents tried to steer her away from music and towards the culinary arts, which she had also always had a knack for. Cherry reluctantly obliged, she had to admit she did seem to also have a natural gift for cooking and even if her heart didn’t call for it like it did music, she figured it was worth a shot.
Everything came to a climax for her when she accompanied her parents to a catering gig backstage at a Sapphire Shores concert. Cherry tried to focus on the food but couldn’t help getting entranced by the music, and through a wacky series of events found herself in center stage in the middle of the performance. Shores didn’t notice the young filly on stage until she bumped into her and stopped singing out of shock. The music continued on and Cherry had a moment of sudden clarity and, rather than try to sing along to the melody, she spoke the lyrics that came to her head to the rhythm of the music. Sapphire Shores loved it and started singing again, filling in the gaps when Cherry would stop to take a breath. The whole performance was a hit with the audience, and afterwards Shores told Cherry to keep trusting her heart and focusing on her natural talents, winking and telling her that she definitely had a future in music. Throughout the excitement Cherry only noticed her new cutie mark when her parents congratulated her on it.
Personality:
Cherry has one of the biggest personalities you can imagine. She’s brash and ostentatious, a real wild card. She does have some hidden insecurities, but she makes sure to act like she doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her. She’s definitely a lot of fun, definitely taking after Pinkie personality wise. Cherry knows how to party, and if you can handle her bold (and often vulgar) personality, she’s a loyal and true friend who wouldn’t hesitate to throw hands (or hooves I guess) for her friends.
Notes:
She’s very short, even smaller than her parents
She started wearing her hair in her face like that to cover up her eyebrows after being bullied over them, as she gets older and more confident she starts wearing her hair up more often
She has a pet albino boa named Banana and LOVES reptiles, just like her mom Pinkie Pie
She’s actually a very good chef, but she usually makes her food so spicy only she and her mom Saffron can enjoy it...both of them are VERY proud of the fact they can eat foods far spicier than most ponies, and in the case where they end up making something too spicy they usually end up eating it anyway to save face...as soon as no one’s looking they both run off and drink an entire gallon of milk

She lost one of her teeth on an adventure with Lilac Breeze, she and her got into all kinds of unladylike mischief when they were fillies
Her parents are supportive of her career (even if they are a little bummed it seems like none of their daughters are gonna take over their catering business) but they don’t always listen to her music because they can only take so much of their little baby girl saying those vulgar things! Why can’t she talk about more family friendly topics!
Her stage name comes from Pinkie calling her "Cherry-Pie-Stir-Fry" as a filly
Rap music DID exist in-universe before Cherry, she didn't invent it or anything..she just didn't know about it/consider it an option i guess

i feel like i say this about literally all of my nextgens but i love her SO much...she's genuinely one of my favourite characters i've ever made i think.
