I feel I had a similar experience the day before I drew this. Whenever Haku would speak, I was struck with feeling of unidentifiable familiarity.
Unfortunately, I was not as clever as you and your friend, or perhaps it was that I hadn't seem Static Shock in years, but I had to look it up when it haunted me past the movie.

Lol I figured it out like the second time he talked. I was like "OMG GUYS. GUYS. IT'S RICHIE MAN! RRIICCHIIIEE!!!" So then whenever Haku came on we'd be all "IT'S RICHIE." And then when he was a dragon we'd be all "WHERE'S STATIC, I WONDER IF HE KNOWS THAT RICHIE'S A DRAGON?" and stuff. It was great.
