That is really cool. I do have a problem with your statement about Steampunk though. Steampunk isn't about random cogs and wheels that don't work. It's about a world where the era of steam, coal, and clockwork power never quite ended. Sure in our world Steampunk things might seem as though they lack a function; but in a Steampunk reality, where magic nearly always exists, it might do something spectacular.

My initial reaction was "Wow, that looks amazing". All the little details come together to make an incredibly beautiful piece - very "in period". The actual time machine concept is was got me, but the more I looked at it, the better it looked. I can see it sitting in some old dusty office, just waiting for a curious fella to crank those levers.
And after seeing it working... it just doesn't look amazing. It IS amazing. Great work!

Wow! An amazing design! And what's more makes me happy that it was done by fellow latvian.
The only thing I would strictly disagree is that steampunk is "random cogs and wheels that don't do anything". People who think so (no matter do they like steampunk or not) have quite poor knowledge in steampunk roots.

Thanks.
I get what you mean , however, just google steampunk , and you will see what I mean!
I admit I don't have the appropriate knowledge in steampunk roots. But what I am saying is that nowadays (not the original 1980s) everything that has cogs and wheels and brass is commonly considered steampunk( I am not saying that it is right, but that's just how people nowadays think( a lot of people do ( though , not all apparently , and that's good, that was what I was trying to draw the attention to , I personally think steampunk is something really cool , but only if it is done properly (as you say, in accordance to the original roots of steampunk )))

I see that the levers are distinguishable by touch; a nice design feature. The entire device is beautiful, and that the parts move is excellent.

this is so cool! i know some of the pieces are recycled from old things, but do you have to custom order things like the levers?

osiskars In reply to kampfly [2012-04-11 01:01:31 +0000 UTC]
Well , there is only 3 recycled things as you mention , everything else (that's visible) is scratch built.
1.So the bought thing is and old mantel clock with a revolving pendulum(clock used as clock, and pendulum as modified compass)
2.The handles of the box are bought but modified.
3.The hinges of the box are bought, but slightly modified.
Everything else is made out of scratch... The handles were made on a lathe, out of hard chemiwood. I made them myself if by custom order u mean that somebody else does it on order..

Wow .. It's just breathtaking !! The design itself is wonderful but when it works ... It's pure dream. it's like you enter into the story, your not anymore in 2012 but in the 18th century near the scientist
