Are those normal engines? Their trails seem a bit longer than normal...

I bet it's impossible to actually get to the gate, unless you point your ship toward it and leave it going for several years...

Yeah, and the average speed of most ships is 300 m/s... Do the math, and you might as well point your ship toward the gate and go off to college for a few years...

goto [link] (eve) and you will see.
the story is that a bunch of people went through "gate" (worm hole) to a new portion in space that man-kind had discovered. man-kind started to explore and find new re-sources out in distant space until one day a horrible accident occured. the gate shut. many pilots took thier ship in hopes to make it to the other side befor it sealed but were killed in the violent turburlance and massive energy distortions. the gate was shut and millions of people were stuck on the other side unable to get back to Sol. the people split up into 4 groups to find a habitable planet. thus came to creation the Gallante, Minmatar, Caldari, and the Amarr.
thier planet's characteristics changed thier features and technologies they had available to them.
in the picture is a Minmatar "Rifter" that i took up to the eve gate were everything started.
