Thanks, I thought 1963 because of the gills you mentioned. I knew it was the 60's because of the engine size.

In a 1963 the "fake grills" are in the hood...
What you have pictured - is the side cove vents. Some Corvette side coves actually vent (to exhaust engine compartment heat) and some don't. The 1963 side cove area have two- long indents that do not vent.
The "427" engine is a big-block engine that did not appear in factory Corvettes until 1966.
The 1963's (from the factory) only had small-block "327" engines.
