Description
Materials: bronze wire, dyed paua shell, leather cord
First time using bronze wire. Some thoughts:
It's a lot harder than copper or brass, and very "springy". It doesn't like to hold a shape- this made weaving with it especially difficult, since the coils tended to unwind. The upshot of this is that it is very strong, and can produce really nice smooth curves as long as both ends are well anchored. The large loop on the right side of this piece is actually under tension, and it would take a fair amount of force to warp. It could definitely survive a drop onto a hard floor intact, which a copper wire of the same thickness (20gaX2) probably would not.
I doubt I'll be making anymore all-bronze pieces. I initially bought it because I want to do more multiple-metal projects, and I prefer the slightly softer color to that of brass, but it's really not worth the hassle of trying to weave with. I think it's potential is mostly as a scaffold in areas that require extra durability.
