Description Dragon Con Atlanta 2008!

What an awesome weekend.

So, yes, even though I will never be the wraithlike skinny of Johnny Depp, I loved the character enough to grow out my hair and cosplay.

All items of this costume, barring the straight razor (which is a replica) and the shoes (destroyed Stacy Adams) were made by me. My hair *is* actually bleached white and the blood is bright red jaquard fabric paint.

My Lovely Nellie Lovett played here by the fabulous Kira
a.k.a. ViolentYoda , who constructed her costume entirely from scratch, including draping all of the patterns herself.
She is absolutely amazing and I was honored to swoop around the con with her.

Are you naturally that pale? It must be nice to be pale like that. xD Less time needed to spend on makuep
Very nice cosplay, both of you look extremely accurate! Probably one of the most accurate cosplays I have seen. I love that you guys focused on all the finer details. Your vest looks very good, it fits you perfectly, exactly the way Depp's fit on him (yea weird observation, I know, but whatever)
Although it looks to me that your razor holster is on the wrong side, but I'm sure you know that now. lolz

I am fairly pale as can be referenced by my other costume pics in the gallery, but I am wearing some powder and shading here. Thanks very much! We were really, really intent on making ours better than most of the ones we had seen.

It was easier for me to wield it on that side. Sometimes accuracy needs to be fudged.

Thanks again!

Thats great! I agree with you, many of the Sweeneys I have seen (both in real life and some on here) have honestly not been very good. You guys definitely do a superior job

and oh lol ok xD If it wasnt originally on his left side I probably would have put it on the left side anyways since its more comfortable that way. So I get what you mean (although thankfully for me, the way it is easier for me is the correct side)

Welcome!

you both are very very talented! awesomely done. Very very accurate. That mrs Lovett's dress is the best and most true to the movie dress that I have seen. You also make a very nice Sweeney
I like that you used your own hair, that is what I do as well when I cosplay because wigs annoy me

Thanks very much! We toiled long and hard for our respective costumes. She is certainly the most accurate Mrs. Lovett that I have seen since this.

I'd really love to have a lace front wig though. Growing out my hair for this was such a pain.

FleetStreetNightmare In reply to Opergeist [2010-12-16 05:44:06 +0000 UTC]

I'm looking for a lace front wig for my Sweeney costume and Hatter costume as well
If you find anything please let me know! I would need it to be like exactly like Sweeneys or Hatters hair and to match Depp's hairline (as my hairline surprisingly is a very close match to his as well)
And you are welcome! You guys make an amazing Sweeney and Lovett! I want to go to DragonCon sometime, it seems to attract the best/more accurate cosplayers. I still want to meet up with other Sweeney cosplayers
She is the most accurate Lovett, the detail on her costume is really good!

I'm not sure how often you get asked this, but what was your process for your Sweeney makeup?? It's so pale, and looks so even! And great shading details, btw...Or are those natural cheekbones? Not meaning to offend, if it does, I was just wondering!

YOU LOOK SO FIERCE!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Opergeist In reply to DefyingTwilight [2009-11-05 04:05:44 +0000 UTC]

Ehm...that's pretty much just me with some shadows smudged in and powder. Yes. Those are my cheekbones.

I blended red with the eyeliner on my lower eyelids and smudged it on with my fingertip.

Thanks very much!

skerie [2009-09-17 03:58:30 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure you get asked this a million times (or perhaps not) but I've had the hardest time trying to find a pattern for Sweeney's vest! So I'm very curious what you used for yours! Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Opergeist In reply to skerie [2009-09-19 15:26:12 +0000 UTC]

I used a template from a Simplicity pattern for a double breasted tailcoat. ( Not recent, but it has a Father Christmas on the cover with a very Dickensian looking gent to the side)
That was just for general shape, and it was lying around. I ended up making my own pattern, but that was a decent jumping off point.

Hope that was helpful!

Opergeist In reply to DarkAmythist [2009-04-09 16:01:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

Well, ViolentYoda (pictured) actually made her dress so she would be the best one to ask. I know that she was incredibly diligent in her detailing!

I only made my own costume and begged and pleaded her to be my Mrs. Lovett for a day ::grins::

The costumes are quite impressive! I like the bloodstain on your sleeve and your hair. I want your hair.

And darling, you don't have to be thin to look absolutely amazing!

Opergeist In reply to ella-mental [2008-12-21 22:52:17 +0000 UTC]

I appreciate that ::grins:: it was a really fun costume to wear, but the preparation was obnoxious. It took nearly six months to grow out my hair, as it is normally strictly mohawked.

ella-mental In reply to Opergeist [2008-12-22 04:09:34 +0000 UTC]

Oh dear, it's always troublesome to adjust to growing your hair out, isn't it? The results are amazing though. I do hope you get the praise you deserve.

I love your friend's dress! One of my best friends did her own version of a Nellie dress for Halloween, but when she does something her way... It's *very* her way. The dress is nice, but she looks more like a demon bride than Nellie. So I love this dress!

We both do stitching-involved things for a living, so it helps to have that kind of background holding up what we do for fun!

sweeneytodd2010 [2008-09-21 02:44:43 +0000 UTC]

this is awesome! both costumes are very movie accurate. and uhh..what color is ur hair? i wanted to bleach a white streak in my hair too, but my hair is black, and someone told me it was too dark to bleach to be that white (my hair would fall out before it could become white).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Opergeist In reply to sweeneytodd2010 [2008-09-21 22:49:03 +0000 UTC]

My hair originally dark brown, but it had been dyed black previously.
Yeeeeaaaah....they were right to a point. I have done plenty of weird crap to my hair in the past, but this go around was pretty damaging to be perfectly honest.

The bleach will respond better to 'virgin' hair rather than previously dyed parts. The only reason that mine had to be so over processed was that the black parts would only lighten to an orangey-yellow. I neutralized it with a whitening rinse and it seemed to turn out ok.

Part of the very end did break off.

sweeneytodd2010 In reply to Opergeist [2008-09-21 23:25:41 +0000 UTC]

o..yea. probably would do well for my hair either. i have had red highlighs before i dyed my hair black...and before that i had had 2 different highlight applications also.

What I probably should have done in the first place.

sweeneytodd2010 In reply to Opergeist [2008-09-26 00:51:43 +0000 UTC]

yea..but then it doesnt look as uhh..natural (not that having a white streak randomly in ur hair is natural in the first place..lol). but ya know what i mean. ugh, wish i had blonde hair, then all i would have to do is dye it black and bleach it.
