Description
I dreamt of mermaids throughout the spring.This is a personal piece for me, born from the reading of Sarah Hall's "The Electric Michelangelo," the viewing of SF Ballet's "The Little Mermaid," and the search for solace during a particularly rough school semester.

Thank you! Β I usually do a black and white drawing with all of the shading in graphite before I color it in Photoshop, so that there's a bit of 'tooth' to the image. Β You can also make a color filled layer (I usually do light blue or yellow), set it to Soft Light at anywhere between 20-50% opacity, and then put a Texturizer filter on top to get a sort of paper texture. Β Watercolor textures set to Soft Light are also pretty effective! Β :3 Β Hope this helps, and good luck with your own work!

Reminds me a bit of some of the illustrations of Arthur Rackham, of which I am inordinately fond. Beautiful! Love the way you used light to focus attention.

Wow! Such amazing details (the fins of the tail and the sword's hilt are my favorites) and I love how the colors have this soft glow. It's a nice twist in the common story too!

The hair is beautiful. I have always envied those who have been able to capture the way wind or water sends it gently aloft. Lovely colors too.

I'm not an expert, but just... the colors, the pose, the texture, the lighting... really come together. I love it! (Besides, I must admit it gives me that vintage vibe, which I really enjoy.)

I have conflicting emotions about this. At first I was like wow pretty colors, then I was upset because the girl will obviously die if she drowns, then this reminded me of an old kelpie story about the kelpie being lonely and wanting something beautiful for himself. Wow. So I feel sad for the girl but glad that the mermaid has a companion " If only for a short amount of time ".

I've never needed to comment here, on this site. I view things from time to time, enjoy them, learn from them, and go on my way.
But here, I break this trend. Here, I have found something stunningly beautiful to me. ..I associate very strongly with the sea, and so when you say this is a personal piece for you, I understand it. I can see it in the artistry. I can hear music spilling forth.
I sometimes think the sea is in my soul. So when another admirer of your work states, it may look as if the mermaid is trying to capture the person, I see (sea?) very differently. I feel that symbol of oceans, that being of the sea, simply defines your character's very soul, is the light which brings forth the beauty of your protagonist.
I hope all went well, that your tensions were eased, and that you've found what drives your very own soul, what drives You forward. : ) May you always find your light. Thank you for your artistry.
