YOUR CRITIQUE

What makes me smile:
1) That beautiful yellow. The way you've painted the yellow in this gives the feel of the sun's rays shining on the grass and road and glowing in the clouds - it creates a lovely mood. I especially like the sunlight showing bright through the gaps in the fence.
2) The details. This is one of the things I love most about your style. I love the little slug, the plants and most of all the collection of objects the character has brought with him.
3) The storytelling. You can really imagine this as an illustration in a book. I would love to read his story. The picture makes you wonder why he's there and where he's going next.
4) Your attention to how objects look in real life. Even though the objects are simplified, they are still drawn very accurately. Examples are the road sign, the fence, the bench etc... The broken tops to the fence panels and the fact that some are crooked makes the situation much more realistic and helps lend to the storytelling and spark the imagination.

I usually try to find some improvements when I give a critique but I really cannot find much wrong with this piece at all! It is so enchanting. I'm a big fan of your style and this is one of my favourites so sorry I cannot give anything to work on xD.

Thank you!
Heh, I was ready for a big chagrin because this picture is watercolour and I don't think it's easy (or even possible) to fix something after your critique)

Thank you for let me know that storytelling part works. I know that my drawing skills are poor and look to be improve very slow. So telling little stories is my attempt to make the mood.
Also I'm really not good with words.
And after all... it's just fun to draw)

ps
...one question - where's a little slug? He wasn't in the plan

I am the one who is embarrassed now. This is because I realised after writing this that the 'slug' is actually a little bird. At first glance it looks like: [link] (3).htm !!! I thought the tail of the bird was the tail of the slug and the outline for the wings was the little raised bit near the slug's head. I'm so sorry xD

And you're welcome. I really like this piece. And I don't think your drawing skills are poor - I like your style.

Yes, it works.
And please - don't worry
Quite the contrary. I want to tell: thank you!
Next time I'll pay more attention to avoid ambiguity) This slug looks rather like! (Like the bird I drew, not the real one, of course ) Even yellow! It's very deceitfully of him to be that. Arrgh!

Oh - I'm glad you are not annoyed xD

I can see it as a little bird if I look one way and as a slug if I look another! You're right, it is very sneaky of the slug to look so similar!

Did he run away from home. I really like how overgrown and run down the bus stop look. Also the details you managed with the watercolors is gorgeous. This looks like it has a nice story behind it.

Thank you.
He just a boy at the neglected bus stop, who knows. I think bus will take him home out of the big savage world full of grass, sun and adventures (some people call it grandmother's village house).
And out of friends. And unsolved mysteries.
Will next year give it back? He has no idea.
