Too bad for Olaf that he died before the Icelanders converted.
Even though this a funny way of depicting it, it's not the hole story. I'll present it in a hetalia version:
Iceland: Phew, glad that boss of Norway died, now I can keep going on with my trade... Wait what is this feeling I have...?
(Iceland starts getting a conflicted feeling) It is almost like a part of me wants to be Christian. Yes, I can see it, but another part of me wants to remain Norse!
(Iceland can then be seen changing moods between debating himself that it's wrong to leave new born babies out in the forest to die and eat horse meat, and then changing mood arguing for it)
Argh!! I need to get help with this problem or I am going to tear myself apart!! (Iceland runs up to Thorgeir Thorkelsson) Please Thorgeir! Decide what I should be! Norse or Christian!
(Thorgeir looks at Iceland, deeply into his eyes)
Thorgeir: Um... Christian, but if you want to eat horse meat, or leave out new born babies in the woods, that's still okay Iceland: (Iceland leaves out a breath of relief) Thanks Thorgeir.
*Explanation*
Olaf had managed to convert a good deal of chieftains in Iceland, before he went to more aggressive actions. Most Icelanders were still pagans, but there were so many Christians now that the country was in threat of civil war. To prevent this, the Icelanders assembled at the Allthing and a Norse pagan Godi, Thorgeir Thorkelsson, got one day and one night to mediate on which religion he should choose to become Iceland's official religion.
After that he came out and claimed that Iceland were to be Christian, and all public Blots and public worship were to be outlawed. Pagan practice would still be tolerated in their personal homes and eating horse meat and letting unwanted new born children out in the forest to die would still be permitted.*
*The thing about letting new born children out in the forest to die and eating horse meat was one of the big debates in Norse society between Christians and Pagans.
