Description Bruce Wayne's mind reeled and his brow furrowed as he finally perceived a glimmer of understanding. In his guise as the Capped Crusader, many so called Villains were behind bars of Arkham Asylum. To a greater or lesser degree, insanity linked all of the criminals, yet case study after case study never uncovered an underlying cause.

Something itching at his brain finally convinced the Dark Knight that the missing piece of the puzzle was unseen, but overriding and indiously persuasive. Was it possible that a hideous, invasive preternatural force really made them dance like stringed puppets at a side show? He had to find out!

His line of reasoning quickly led Batman to Miskatonic University, where long hours were spent reading everything possible in its hallowed library of myth and lore. Consulting with the school's council of governors, Wayne's terrible suspicions were validated and then some. Evidently an ancient alien entity of enormous size and vast mental capabilities, foretold to arise and reclaim Earth as its own, warped the minds and very souls of men, and it was the Dark Knight's task to do what was impossible, figure out a way to stop the vile thing known as... Cthulhu.

I do thank you and everyone else who's taken the time to leave comments!

When cool ideas come out in conversations, I do my best to include them in any story that goes along with a particular piece.

Much appreciated!

I often do the same thing, and you're welcome. I do very much enjoy the occasional time someone likes my ideas enough touse them in their own stories.

Glad you like the piece, which has turned out being the 1st of a Batman/Lovecraft crossover series!

I've added a short story setup in the description above, and will for the other works as well.

I think, in this case, The Joker would be the one to save the day. He can't get any more insane, and he wouldn't accept anything else ending The Batman. Besides all that, Joker has a very deep sense of irony. He could even be expecting such a showdown. And would note, that, "The impossible was done once; so, yeah, it could be done again."

Seeing something like this must be making even Batman wonder if he's finally lost it! Though it also makes me wonder how the Joker (Mark Hamill version) would react if it were him there seeing Cthulhu approaching instead.

OliverInk In reply to OldCartoonGeek [2019-08-16 17:36:11 +0000 UTC]

Agreed.

I'd see Batman making the connection to the craziness of Arkham Asylum and its occupants, then finally saw the horrible truth.

Fortunately, he assumed something might be making people go batshit crazy, so made some personal thingamabob to shield his mind, after a few waking nightmares drove him to do it.

I'd assume Joker and others would be revealed as Cultists.

Though, me thinks Joker is even too mad for Cthulhu to control.

Either that or he would be especially susceptible; already being prone to murdering people and commit other horrendous acts.

The way the Joker has been portrayed lately (cutting off his own facial skin and using it as a mask for example), maybe it has already happened and we just don't realize it. Maybe he was supposed to replace it with a squid mask and somehow it didn't work out.

One must be somewhat insane themselves to plumb those depths of egregious mental insanity.

Isn't it fortunate we're all a little mad here?
