Thanks! Just yesterday morning I spotted two of them duking it out first on our balcony, then on a tree. I've seen nuthatches defend themselves against other birds before, but not a fight among them, and was slightly surprised by how fierce they were.

I usually only see one of them, maybe they're territorial?

Outside the mating and breeding season they're not, but it's possible their offspring hasn't left the nest yet. That would certainly explain that behavior.

Just now looking at my notifications . . . Aha! That's how you knew my bird photo was a Nuthatch! Great series of shots, Oliver.

Thank you!

These little guys are among the more common birds around here, so I keep seeing them every now and then (sometimes even in front of the windows ). They are kind of hyperactive, but as you can see with enough patience even someone like me (as an inexperienced beginner at the time) can get a good shot.

This made me catch my breath. Β The softness of the light and colors, the way this beautiful nuthatch seems to be almost built into the scene......simply lovely.

That's the way they often appear at a distance - the blue-gray of their backs doesn't stand out a lot from the surface of most trees, so you may not notice them unless they're moving (which they are doing an awful lot, though! Hacking away at bugs and such with the ferocity of a woodpecker. ).

By the way, did you happen to see the previous version of this? I hope not, it wasn't up to par with my editing these days, so I re-edited and re-uploaded this image...

I did not see the previous version, actually! Β So, to date, I have been exposed only to your highest-quality editing skillz. Β You're good! Β

Heh, lucky you! The highlights were too bright, the shadows too dark, the details too blurry and the colors all over the place!

Seriously though, if you like to have a good laugh just venture deep into the older parts of my gallery (not the featured one, but the one with all my stuff) sometime and you'll see how those bad-ass 1337 editing skillz started out like!

...then again, it's a good reminder of the way I've come so far.

Haha, thanks!

Although going back to some of my older works like this one I start to feel the urge to have another go at the processing of the image...

That's a fabulous capture! Though I understand the comment and your urge to have another go at the editing. It's still a fine shot, however and I wouldn't necessarily call it 'stuck between two ideas'.

Haha, its kinda like he read my mind thats pretty much what I was thinking at the time; never sure if it was going to work at the time, had a look at the back of the camera though and went...wow... have to get a wave crash in there now That shot mainly came out of boredom at the shoot location, already having been lying there for about 2-3 hours ^^ good fun playing with light though

Thanks for all the favs btw Still getting through about 4 years non-activity so some of it isn't really up-to-date and the newer stuff (fingers crossed) is a little better, but we'll see how its received...Β

You working on much atm?? Gonna watch btw, you're too much fun to chat to ;D

Yeah, I can see how lying there for at least 2-3 hours could make you feel somewhat bored. It's a good thing though, since you got some awesome shots because of that, so it was time well spent.

4 years? Wow. I don't think I could spent that long without dA. Then again, I'm not using any other social media sites, either, so it's kind of my "home" on the net now.
In any case, I can't wait to see more of your work!

No, not working on much at the moment - just doin' this and that and wonderin' how time flies by...!

And thanks a lot for the watch!
