Getting most of the noise out of this image was a bit of a challenge. The bird was sitting in the shade, which raised my camera ISO up to 6400, at which point images are usually rather noisy. Fortunately I was able to take several shots in quick succession without the bird moving too much, so I was able to load four different images into photoshop as layers, align them, turn them into a smart object and then stack them using mean or median averaging (not sure which I used here). Additionally I had to adjust the layer mask of the top layers, since the position of the tail would not match between the individual images. Last but not least I cropped the image in Lightroom and did some more finetuning to color, sharpening and noise reduction before exporting it to .jpeg.

Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised with the result as well, considering there wasn't much light to work with. A bit of magic in Photoshop later (which I use only very rarely in my photography) and there's less noise and even more detail. I couldn't be happier with it.

Wow, the Eurasian Wren looks a lot like the Carolina Wren. I have a nesting pair in my backyard and I love those little poof-balls. Nice work getting it while it was still.

Yes, the similarities are striking. It's not just the coloration that's similar, it seems both like to adopt a tail-up posture that gives their bodies a ball-shaped appearance.
I take it the carolina wren is just as restless as the Eurasian one?

Thanks! I'm particularly happy because I haven't had a wren in front of my lens in several years. When I saw one in front of the kitchen window a few days ago I just knew I had to do something about it. A day (or two) later I spotted (and heard) this one in our local park.
