Pretty much.

Maybe the sparrow thought I'd have some food; they're all about the food in a lot of ways. Sparrows usually live where there is enough food, but if that food source is suddenly gone one day they won't look elsewhere. They rather stay in their habitat and starve.

Which is one of the main reasons house sparrows are now living so close to humans (close to garbage containers, for example), because this is one of the few ways to guarantee a steady supply of food these days.
