Enamel is NOT EASY to work with.... Especially this type of Enamel work. One mistake and it's back to the drawing board !

well ever since i was a little kid, i've been interested in military related things, gas masks especially. i think they're so mysterious, secretive, and impersonal, that i just am facinated by them.

well enameling is basically fusing glass and metal together in a kiln. It only takes about 5 minutes to fire the enamel and let it cool, so its sort of a quick process. For this one though i spent around an hour and a half on because this one has been etched to get the image. I used an acid bath to do the etching of the person so after it was taken out of the acid, the dark part that you see is raised. I then enameled over the whole thing 3 times and then used a block of some special salt to grind down the enamel so you can see the image. Then I fired it once more to get rid of any scratches on the enamel. I hope I explained that well...?
