When I look at it again I realize how creative and aptly you've placed the red transparent bar on his mouth, it makes me think of those 'three monkeys' phrase (or whatever it's called) which was quite uncannily fitting when I think back about the recent manga update and this artwork:-

Ah, the red bar - It's for the people using the picture as BG on their phones ->"Slide to unlock"   ..... Bad joke is bad

Well, the first thing removed was the seal on his mouth.

And since I think that he has merged with KS's power (I suppose he has. It is his own power after all. The sword is like a mediator for manifesting something he has in him in the first place - I make the parallel with "The Blade is Me" chapters.) I'm willing to jump into the conclusion that he is using his voice to cast the illusion, or is conversing with reiatsu, which Kyouraku suggested. And using his reiatsu is the same as casting an illusion (Yamamoto's reiatsu was in the form of flames, and Hitsugaya's was making his grandmother trembling from cold).


So...He is with a sealed mouth -> red bar looking like the red rods sticking out of his shoulders on the color page.  
And he is a smooth talker ; ) He can confuse you without using KS.
