Good point, Mike - I notice some others here can bring out the petal textures much better than I can - often they seem to be using Nikon lenses and cameras. OTOH, these are adventitious shots - just taken as I wandered about.

Thank you, Mayumi. This plant is quite common in the UK and is usually found in cultivated gardens. I think this example must have "escaped" into the hedgerows. It does look delicate, but in fact is quite a hardy species.
