Description Gulls 'R UsI was lucky enough, while on my recent South Australia vacation, to be able to photograph some sea gulls, notably the Pacific Gull (Larus pacificus georgii) and the Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandaise), these being the two most common indigenous gulls. The following shots were taken, mostly at Baird Bay on west coast of the Ayer Peninnsula ==>http://www.bairdbay.com/, with a couple of the Pacific Gull shots being from Kangaroo Island. As is normal with these Journals, viewing at full size is recommended.
Recently the group :iconanimalsplantsnature: #animalsplantsnature under the authorship of Mouselemur hosted an excellent Journal cum tutorial about photographing different types of birds, The APN Guide: Photographing Different Birds including seabirds. Readers may wish to consult that guide, particularly the seabird section when looking at these shots

A little very wild and windy world, Mayumi! That was one of only two very stormy days that we had on our vacation, and this fellow was taking a rest from the gusts of wind.

Many thanks for your kind comment.

I just love the colors and scenery.  I can almost smell the salt in the air.  This is a fantastic shot.  Thank you very much for adding information for us bird watchers.

My pleasure and thank you for such a kind comment. You are correct about the salt in the air - very stormy that day with a high sea running, lots of spray. From a photographic pint of view, if I may blow my own trumpet a little, I think I got the exposure just right here to give detail in both the "black" and "white" feathers. Normally, I either blow the white or underexpose on the black.

Cheers

David
