:iconsantaclause: A very Merry Christmas to all Watchers, Friends, Viewers, Favers, and indeed to the whole DA community.:iconsantaclause:
For the last in the current series of photographs from my recent safari in Tanzania, I thought I should send in the birds - some colourful, spectacular, big, small, delightful, dangerous, cunning and simple birds - not to be found in my backyard, but in the wonderful savannah of the National Parks in Northern Tanzania. Almost all of the following were spotted and photographed while on game watches with the indefatigable Alfred the Great, our driver, guide and mentor on safari. My personal thanks once again to his skilful and professional guiding without which our tour would have been so much the poorer.
I'm going to show one or two images of several birds and give some commentary on them. The images were obtained on my Canon

Yes, it was, Katey, but we were quite far away so didn't hear anything. But an amazing sight.

Cheers

Many thanks, Linda. Good point about being scared off. I don't know. They seem to do this every so often - a huge flock of them rising up, flying around for a few minutes and then settling back down. Not all of the birds take part, only sections of them. They could get scared by a predator - those monitor lizards or a hyena perhaps (no big cats in this region) or a raptor - or it could be part of feeding behaviour - all of them moving to a slightly different locality for food.

Cheers

David

Yes, you can see both species here, with the red/orange wings of the "Greater" species evident.

Thank you, Sheri.

I can't say as I distinguished between the two species, but wonderful capture, David!
