Thanks! Originally I was going to display it on a Macbook mockup but I decided the iMac version looked better, I just forgot to take out the battery.

Can you please teach me how to do this I have photoshop but it been even better to do it to the legit OS and not just make a mock up. We could work together if you want to make one for the legit os it be awesome. This design is amazing!!!

Everything, what else?!
This is a desktop OS, not one for mobile touch devices. Problem is, that most people simply don't get this, even Apple.

Ohsneezeme In reply to MacPaul [2013-12-12 22:47:29 +0000 UTC]
If you actually looked at it for long enough you'd notice it's closer to a re-skin than a redesign. Most of the actual attributes that make the UI of Mac OS are still there. Some things have switched like the unified search bar but those have been implemented in other desktop programs like Chrome and even Safari on the current iteration. So it has no big multitouch interaction. And with your second argument i don't agree with you. Apple is really really good at making things easier to use. They are also very detail oriented. Even the most subtle of details that apple picks up on don't seem to have much of an impact at all. But with closer inspection a lot of the small details contribute heavily to the overall experience that apple creates with it's products. So I think that Apple most definitely get's it and they're on point with it.
Also for future reference, if you're going to critique someones work you may want to make it constructive because if you don't suggest anything or point out anything specifically that doesn't look right then they don't know what to change.

"Apple is really really good at making things easier to use. They are also very detail oriented."
Ha ha, that was good! My friend, if you talked about the Apple some years (or was it decades?) ago I could agree, but the Apple of today? No way!
Someone who argues like that can definitely not be a power user who does a lot on his computer but maybe only a nerd who repeats the theorie about Apple which is by now only this and no longer fact.
Apple lost it a long time agoโฆ
P.S.: if you mean the design of every little icon and its details you may be right, but that doesn't afflict the interaction with the OS as much as the functionality design. I fear you mean just right that when you talk about the GUI. But that's not it. The really important thing about a GUI are thing that all those Apple newbies of the iPhone/iPad generation don't even know. We are talking about the OS here - just to mention one case - that learned it only in 10.6 to zoom windows correctly and 10.7 made it worse than before in 10.5 and below. One could argue that Windows is even worse in this regard because it zoom to fullscreen with maximize but this is only a very weak consolation and I'm talking about OS X only here anyway.
So don't talk about Apple as the great innovator and master of GUI when in fact they are not even master of design because they even make this worse.

Wow, you are now blatantly insulting me. Just because I like simpler aesthetics it doesn't mean I'm not a power user. I think a simpler UI is better for power users because it lets them get in and out of the program quickly. It also lets them get all the information they need with little distraction. As for your argument that details have little to do with functionality, I think that is completely off. It's indeed subtle but it does improve functionality. One example is the transparent bars in iOS. They give the user a sense of context and where their content is (even when it's off screen). Small details like that (that apple has just put into their design language) help the user on a subliminal level. It makes the OS easier to use. And it is possible for a UI to be simple yet give the user complete control. Lately Apple has forgot the later part because of how they are trying to make everything "just work". For the majority of people that is a good thing but for power users it's bad because it takes the control out of their hands. That being said, my point about this being a re-skin that doesn't strip any functionality of OS X still stands. I don't mind if you don't like the visual aesthetics of this. I know many that don't. However, please understand that this is just a visual overhaul, not a functionality overhaul. Granted there are things that I have left out but that was my own mistake. On a last note, I don't think apple is "the great innovator and master of GUI". However, I do think they are pretty damn good at it. If you call handing a 2 year old an iPad and have them use it with ease bad UI then I can't even begin to comprehend what good UI must be like.

MacPaul In reply to Ohsneezeme [2013-12-14 11:08:46 +0000 UTC]
This may apply to some subtle refinements in the GUI appearance, but all in all Apple is clearly focusing on the style itself thereby completely ignoring the functionality of the OS, not to mention the countless bugs. I'm talking about Mac OS, not iOS. You have to see the bigger picture which few people are able to.
And when you think I'm insulting you when I state my opinion about you (and many others) are not power users I advise you to go crying somewhere else; it's the same silly argument ever and ever again: you criticise me and this is insult. Come on!
The Mac OS has over a period of some years degenerated to an extent that is no longer tolerable for some users, but as the majority of people doesn't get it and does just very little with their devices they don't notice.
So what whe have nowadays is a complete banalisation of computing up to the point - if this continues - where you only have very simple communication devices left that are modelled after iOS devices that are only good for the simplest tasks and thereby leaving power users alone. The GUI and the style is only part of this.
You have to realize like many others what Mac OS (and Apple) really is: an OS based on a 40 year old core system called UNIX that has been very good "tamed" by Apple but is *not* a breakthrough in computing, not even a progress. On top of this, Apple is more and more building a "style over substance simple user OS". You have to imagine what that means: an stone age OS with very complicated stuff like permissions and so on, still having file name extensions (you know, no more type/creator, not to mention meta data ร la Be OS) with an simplified GUI that orientates itself mostly on simple users that don't do much with their computers. Clear, new indications are the effective destruction of iWork for power users and all the new annoyances of Mavericks.
But what is it that most users applaud? Yes, we have Maps now and eBooks for finally reading iTunes store content on Mac OS (which it is not meant for, btw). The underlying core technology/functionality is it that they don't see and you know why? Because they are not interested, being only very modest computer user. But there others out there and they interested in an OS zooming finder windows correctly, just to mention one thing.
So, instead of making up new OS styles better make a list of OS bugs which should be eradicated and proposals for improving Mac OS' functionality. I have a few, do you?

I'd say that if you criticize my person not my work without even knowing me personally it is an insult. Anyway, you're entitled to your own opinion. I just don't agree with you. And I'll take your dislike for this concept into consideration for future concepts.

You can define as insult what you want; go to court with and let's check if it is.
That's also the typical reaction to personal criticism, a sign of a weak person and - unfortunately - quite common these days. This way, you can kill every criticism. I know this reaction and I'm tired of it.

Wtf are babbling about? Saying OS 10 is not cutting edge because it is adapted from unix is retarded! It's like saying a 12 core Xeon chip is low tech because it's based on x86 architecture. Stop being a troll. If you don't like you could simply say "not my style" and move on. Instead you're throwing a tantrum like a 5 year old and insisting that the artist bend to your perspective. Seriously man, shut up.

MacPaul In reply to Cain2003 [2013-12-20 10:30:01 +0000 UTC]
This is a great argument, really. Now you tell me what is so advanced on UNIX, which is 40 year old. Permissions, very advanced, OS X very often has difficulties with it. Suffixes, very advanced.
And the main point is what you don't see: Apple just used this stone old OS in a very good way - I don't deny that - but didn't do something completely new. I mentioned something like meta data of Be OS what you seemingly intentionally overlooked. Now, after years, we got some meta data, but very crude indeed. Even Windows can do that since Vista (EXIF data in Explorer). That's progress, but in fact, Mac OS X is not, in this regard.
Also, I didn't say anything about "cutting edge", these are your words, and I don't intend to bend anyone to my perspective but tell it like it is just to remind people that Mac OS X is _not_ as advanced as it is always called.
This even more so applies to the GUI what was my main point and this one is even much worse. But I very much doubt that anyone of the current generation of Apple nerds is in any way capable to understand just the slightest bit of the GUI mess Mac OS is right now and how far Apple has gone in messing things up, breaking consistencies and so on.
So, if you have any "arguments" and could stop behaving like a five year old, we could continue arguing. But I really don't need any shallow critics from someone who seemingly never digged to deep into an OS and really thought about it instead only repeating the usual Apple canon where everything is just fine not to say amazing, best ever and so on when in fact it's not.

so where would you have moved the wifi, audio, airplay, etc controls for this concept? I really like the reimagined task bar at the top, but it defeats the point if you bury the controls in submenus. did you have a concept for control center-esqe replacement? Just an observation. great concept though.

Ya, this is still a concept and will undoubtedly have an altered version in the future. I'd probably put them on the left (similar to the notification center just on the opposite side). I'd also add a button to make it slide over. Thanks for pointing it out! Also for wifi I replaced it with the circles. I don't think I'll keep it as the circles though.

This looks a lot like what Apple would do! I'm just not sure whether they would grey out the stoplight buttons on the top left of the window, and I don't get why you would fuse the search bar and where you currently are.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
Ohsneezeme In reply to theIntensePlayer [2013-10-20 02:31:16 +0000 UTC]
The fused search bar and file path was just an idea to make things look cleaner. As for the greyed out spotlight buttons, I don't know what you are referring to. If you're talking about the window controls, that is just showing the window is deselected like always. I probably should have included the colored ones but that's just me being forgetful.ย
ohsneezeme.deviantart.com/art/โฆ
That is an older version but the window buttons would reflect what a window would look like when it is selected.
