Hans is a MuggleBorn, so he did not find out he was a wizard until he received his Hogwarts acceptance letter when he was 11. This all came as a big surprise to him, but he said goodbye to his Mom, Dad, and older brother before being whisked off to the train station. Hans was born in Gera, Germany, but only lived there for a year before the neighboring family, who were good friends of his own family, had a child, and the two families moved to England. Hans has grown up with this neighboring kid, Greta, and they are best friends.
