Description 2-24-07-- Ok, two months late, but I still think I need to explain myself.

...

Well, all I really want to explain is the title.

A big, BIG part of "Luck of the Fryrish" for me was the underlying theme of betrayal. That's really what the short-that-I-have-yet-to-write covers. Without giving too much of that away, I always felt that Phil's anger was justified. Admittingly, I was pretty pissed off, too, when I first watched this, but for slightly different reasons (*glomps Anthony*)....

I mean, you have a character who's been unexpectedly ripped away from everything he's ever known or cared for and dumped into (practically) a whole new universe. He didn't want to leave it behind (wanting to leave and being glad that you left are not the same things), but fate's a bitch like that, so he takes it in stride and rebuilds his life.

And then he stumbles across a flash of his old existance, post his existance, and discovers that everything he knew was an effing lie; that the people he loved weren't so apparently keen on returning the emotion, and took horrible advantage of his absence. And worse, no one seems to have tried to stop it.

That's what "Don't" really implies. "Don't tell me you did this. Don't tell me this is true. Don't say you didn't care. Don't tell me it was all just some sort of sick front."

"Don't say you forgot it all so easily."

The ending has to be ignored for this picture; I drew this as an episode card, which meant that I couldn't give away the twist ending, even if I wanted to. So, the "sad and scary" part I was aiming for was meant to be a reflection of the first two thirds or so of LoTF.

I suppose the above isn't concrete, that the "theme" is open to interpretation and analysis, but... if I discovered that my previous relationships, my previous life, had been built on a foundation of lies, I'd be pretty fucking hurt, too.

~-~-~

12-12-06-- dA f'ked up my original comments. Damn it all....

I had some reservations about uploading the finished product, mostly because I lost the ability to upload preview images for my pictures. But I'm too proud of this picture to just let it sit on ImageShack.

So, to summarize what dA deleted: this is supposed to be an episode card for Luck of the Fryrish, since one was never actually released for this episode. It didn't come out exactly as I planned, but I like it nonetheless. Also, I find Fry's brother to be a rather irritating and unavoidable annoyance. I'd revive that rant, but I know you don't want to hear it again....

There are mistakes in this picture, and I was honestly rushing to get it done before school starts up again, but I captured the mood I wanted to portray here, and for now, that's all that matters to me. This episode means a lot of things to me, stirring emotions I don't think many of its fans would normally associate with it, and I just wanted to get them down on paper. I've actually got a one-shot (loosely) related to this that I'd like to write, but there are tons of other things that I desperately need to finish first.

On PEEL, I keep running into the same two words for this picture: sad and scary. That's exactly what I was going for, and I wish I could explain why, but to be honest, so much of the basis for it started in my head that I fear attempting to explain my ill-formed logic on the matter would be a moot point. I saw this episode from a completely different perspective than most of the people who watched it with me that night, and my view still remains skewed. I don't think I could ever truely explain it until I finish the 'Rama Trilogy and it's prologue... I need that reference to fall back on.

It's nearly midnight on Christmas Eve, and I'm feeling horribly lightheaded, so I apologize if none of this makes sense. I'll probably come back tomorrow and rewrite this all when I come by to update my journal.

I meant to add this to my original response, but I was going through the club's art folders and I noticed none of your stuff appeared to be in there. I think you should add your own Futurama fanart to the club because some of it's very cute.

Hehe, I gathered that from your other comments. Even after everything that's happened on the show Fry's family is still one of my favorite aspects of it for reasons I don't fully understand.

I don't know if you're into fanfiction at all, but if you are I think you might enjoy this story . It's a two-part prose saga about Fry and Leela running around parallel universes while being pursued by an evil parallel!Leela, and the second part (that I linked to) takes place in a universe where the Nibblonians screwed up and brought the wrong Fry to the future. The cover art for the second part is here , though the link in that description isn't the best link for the story.

I can only watch the episode once or twice a year. It's worse than Jurassic Bark for me.

Yeah me too. ^_^
Jurassic Bark is depressing as hell, but the fryfish one is more touching.
Maybe cause I can relate to the sibling thing a bit more.

Yeah; I've been a sister for most of my life, but my family never owned a dog until last year, so I always figured that was the reason the different episodes affected me the way they did.

I've never been a dog person.
Everytime I watch Fryfish I think of how I would feel if MY brother just vanished like that.

or was it part of the text you wrote what it was deleted?

It was the text, and it wasn't deleted by dA so much as dA crashed on me while I was posting it and the original text was lost. ^_^'

I really like this, but to be honest I have no idea what that black stuff is. The stuff partially covering Yancy?
But putting that aside, I really like it.

They're supposed to be the shattered parts of the windows behind him. I tried to base the house as close to the screenshots from the episode as I could ([link] ); unfortunately, said screenshots never showed what rooms were behind those windows, so I just left them black.

Probably not the smartest thing I could have done, in retrospect....

Thank you for commenting.

Is that the episode where Fry thinks his brother stole his identity? I don't know their names. XD But that episode made me wanna cry at the end. ;-;

This is good! P: You've really caught the style. I think you should toss yourself a dare and draw Yancy in full. :3 I bet you could!

That's actually something I'm working on in my next picture. Assuming I ever get the poses right....

And, yes, that's the same episode.
