Description Version 2 - I removed the initial version as I wanted to make a couple of revisions and tidy up a couple of areas.

Thanks to Danuta for letting me use her photo. Her photos aren't stock, so ask her politely for permission and she may let you use them.

You can check out my guide here:
Β  My guide to making photomanipulations V2.0It's been a while since I wrote my first guide to photomanips and since then, I've employed a few different techniques in my latest works. I don't have a proper tutorial with screenshots of each step, but here are the steps I generally follow to create my photomanips (I use Adobe Photoshop CS6):
Step 1:
Get a photo of someone you want to manipulate and once you have that, start looking through the stock photos and photography sections for a photo of an animal, but make sure that the lighting conditions and angle that the photo is taken at are similar in both photos. You may need to use more than one photo and take elements of each for different areas of the face/body. Always make sure you read the rules for the stock photos or get permission if the photo isn't stock photography and ALWAYS give credit to your sources. See below for good places to find source images.
Step 2:
Copy the animal's face onto the model's face and lower the opacity of the layer
Step 3:

If you need any more help, feel free to send me a note

Anything you want. I find felines easier due to the shorter muzzles. You can go for a more human looking face for animals with longer muzzles and just take the fur/markings and the tip of the nose though.

If you ever do commissions, I hope to get one from you. I can only imagine what you can do with a cervine or equine photo-morph. Although yes, they're longer muzzles push the realms of believability. Which is why I've thought for a true cervine 'fur' to exist, the muzzles would have to be shortened considerably. Your felines work out it appears because of the shorter muzzles.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OdysseusUT In reply to mbridge1965 [2012-03-15 22:01:57 +0000 UTC]

Yes, their longer muzzles, combined with their very narrow faces makes them challenging. Having said that, a cervine morph is on my to-do list

It's astonishing how good and real this looks. So far, your the only one who's actually made photomanips look real, aside from the first sets of PMs I saw years ago by Silverfish.

I think what really helps, is lighting, and finding just the right angles for both face, and animal face. If they don't match, somehow it shows.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OdysseusUT In reply to mbridge1965 [2012-03-15 22:19:25 +0000 UTC]

There are 3 tiger photos in there. I think I went through around 720 photos to find the few that matched the angle and lighting close enough haha

Thanks That bit took a while to do, and it's still not exactly how I want it, but I felt the end result wouldn't be significantly better for the additional time I'd have to invest to get it 100% and it's so subtle that without expanding to fullview, it's hard to tell. The picture looks far more complete than it did without it and I'm happy with where it's at as a whole.
