Naruto and Sasuke, my latest drawing done in mechanical pencil and colored pencil. I think I'm getting a little better at shading - soon I should be good enough for move on to Prismacolor! (if I can afford them) ^_^Related content

By the way, did you teach yourself to shade, or did you watch some videos on YouTube? I only ask because you seem to have a naturalness to it that some people who just go from YT vids don't have. Sounds stupid, I know, but it's something I thought I'd comment on.

Hmm... Well, I never learned to shade from Youtube videos, so I suppose it just came naturally and with practice. It was easier to start out with pencil, develop my techniques, and then move on to colored pencil, but I don't know if that's the case with everyone.

Is it much harder going from pencil to colored pencil?

Not exactly. If you've got the basics of shading down with regular pencil, the general shading techniques should come just as easily with colored pencil. The hard part is knowing which colors to use and blending them together. I don't really blend them all that much, though. I basically just put down layer after layer until I'm satisfied rather than blending. Hope that answered your question!

Hm, it does. I think back when I did shading that's the way I did it as well. I feel so out of tune trying to do this stuff now.
