I wouldn't say that Mortal Kombat for the Wii is 'realistic'. The game looked like a copy of the 2003 Gamecube Mortal Kombat game. Gamers that want 'realistic' graphics these days are buying Playstation 3 and X-box 360s. No offsense, but the Wii isn't 'up to date' in the videogame graphics department. It seems that Nintendo is falling behind in keeping up with current 3-D graphics. For expample when the Dreamcast and PS-2 came out in 1999 Nintendo released the N-64. Nintendo didn't release the Gamecube until a year later. And even then the Gamecube was weaker than the PS-2 and the X-box. And even with the Wii Nintendo is falling behind in the graphics department...Again. I think Nintendo should call it quits and leave the console market because they don't stand a chance at keeping up with Microsoft and Sony now that Nintendo's long time rival SEGA is no longer in the console market.

The goverment will always blame the youngest type of media for the problems of little kids and teens. When the first violent movies and cartoons (Ex: Three Stooges, Tom and Jerry, Loony Tunes) came out they were blamed for violence in kids. When rock and roll first started out in the 50s it was blamed for teenage rebellion. Videogames are just next on the goverments "I wanna look big and important with a stick up my ass attitude" list. When a new form of entertainment comes out same thing is gonna happen.
Sorry about the long comment. I'm a hardcore gamer so this is something I'm pretty passionate about. The comic is cute though. Made me laugh for the day. Thanks!

too true. Just because a kid in india killed a man because he could do it in the videogame he was playing doesn't mean it's the video game's fault.
THE PARENTS WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR RAISING THE CHILD
never thought 2 teach him the difference between reality and fiction. I totally agree w/ U. America worries 2 much.

I think the responsibility lies in the parents as well in the children. The kids need to distinguish life from fantasy and the adults should think twice if they're gonna screw something up and get their child hurt. And if the child does get hurt, they blame the companies. When in reality it was their fault the kid got hurt/killed. I don't care how much they loved God, or went to church, or helped out. It was their responsibility to watch their child. Not the developer's fault. It is entertainment after all.

The main problem is the parents, who don't make them realize that is just a game, and if they do even if 1% of that, they'll get hurt.
and btw, great pic, I loved it XD

i think the increase in violence and gore is just because of video game developers who want to "push the envelope" to look cool and rebellious.
However the thing about kids, even teens and adults being more violent in reaction to video games isn't just one way. More aggressive people can find more gorey games fun or even as a means of releasing pent up rage toward another person.
On the other hand, continuous long term exposure to violence can even further desensitize a population into being more tolerant to real acts of gorey violence as well as see it as "entertaining" and start to develop a lack of conscious on the matter( and thus think of things like murder, war, torture, and the value of life less seriously). Just like how the media has confused love with pure lust.
Or maybe I am thinking about it too much too XD
But good exagerration on the part in the comic XD It's like the TV vomited the gore on her >>

Research has shown that violent games do not make people violent. They do increase aggressive behavior for a very short time after playing, but the effects are the same as playing full-contact football, or sitting in traffic.
A kid who wouldn't otherwise be violent, will not suddently become violent because they played a video game. Similarly, a kid who is prone to violent outbursts will be so, whether or not they play violent games.
Young, energetic, imaginative people were violent before the advent of digital entertainment, and the numbers show that kids are no more likely to be violent today than they were 50 years ago. In other words: yes, you're taking it too seriously.

"How come if you rip out someone's brain and heart that they are still alive? Or if you slice someone with a sword, they stand up once again and brush everything off?"
Because it wasn't serious to begin with! *cracks up* It's just some good ol cartoon violence in a form of a nice series of games... Good stuff.
Why is it for some reaons I tend to laugh at the 3rd frame of any comic I see now?

Yeah games like that are getting rather impressional on younger people. I was like that with tekken my self! But funny thing is it got me more in shape and I was able to pull off quite a few of the moves my self. But yeah when your too young you beleive too much to be true

lol.. Poor Pussy Cat. Blood is hard to get out.
>snerks< it's a very cute comic.
Me? I grew up in a time when playing 'army' and 'cowboys and indians' were done with guns and caps. some of the weapons looked and felt rather real. Bugs Bunny? smashing people with pianoes, ripping skins off, as well as MANY other 'morning cartoon' scenes were FULL of violence. Meh. nowadays at least it's mostly limited to digital violence.

It's just a game, it's not real, but some people have a big problem with seing the difference between virtual reality and reality. It's easier to blame video games than to blame ourself.

It's cute, funny, and all around adorable because of Pussy Cat. As for video games affecting children, I feel that it's the parents fault. They shouldn't let their kids play those kinds of games or they should inform their kids about that line between fantasy and reality. If you want your kid to have fun, give them a nice videogame to start out with like Mario bros. or Mario party, Pac Man and the like. There are plenty of kid friendly games out there. At least wait until they're a little older before moving on to the more violent games. Those are my thoughts. Love the comic.=3

I know, I heard of little kids playing HALO and Starcraft WITH the parents knowing it!, which to me is pretty wrong.
But on the other hand, lots of kids are home(I heard the number is in the millions) alone these days, with both parents working and thus nobody monitoring what they watch and do. So this gives the kids opportunity to go play a violent game at their friends house or watch TV that the parents don't approve of, and do things in the street. Many places have after school activities and daycare, unfortunately daycare is only up to a limited age and activities can be expensive or lacking in many places.

LOL, Very funny. I sometimes look in awe at the graphics today.
I actually did a report for school whether or not video games cause violence. From what research, violent video games can cause "aggressive behavior" (meaning getting aggitated easily) not nessarily cause violence. The results of experiments have shown that people (young or old) show ''aggressive behavior" immediately after playing video games. However, these affects stop soon after. Young people can be effected by violent video games. One affect of playing to much video games seems to be a disrespect to authority (such as teachers and parents).
I had more information of this subject, but I can't remember it at this time.

For those with too much time and too little organization yes, these games are a problem because they do not have any real work experience and understanding to balance it with.
I go on and on about special effects and sounds, heck I am pretty into a lot of things, but games, well, games are fun, and a pleasant diversion like other things such as running or swimming.
Always comes down to balance to me, after all that is what we need so we do not topple over.
