Well, this has been a long time coming, eh? Can't believe I hadn't drawn it out yet.But, anyway, teamquavers is awesome, and offered a drawing in exchange for the free artwork I did of his ratatta character, Roy . I said anything featuring my favorite li'l shiba dog, Sora, would be fine, and he came up with an image which looks like Sora's being tickled:
...And he mentioned he hadn't decided who'd be the tickler yet. And I thought Kairi would be a good choice (seems like something she'd do!), but I had no Kairi reference for him to use, which is ridiculous. It's been at least 10 years now since I've played Kingdom Hearts, and I haven't drawn a proper dog Kairi? No, that couldn't go on any further, so here's a VERY rough concept of the lovely lady.
teamquavers is going to go with a Pokemon as the tickler in the end, which is equally awesome! But, I thought at least a concept of spaniel!Kairi needed to exist.
And no, I swear, I don't draw EVERY female character as a spaniel of some sort, but dammit I can't lie, they make great LADY characters.
GET IT?
Also as a side note, I prefer English cockers to American ones, I think they're more handsome and sporty-looking.
ANYWAY, enjoy! Kairi is a cutie and this shouldn't have taken this long to happen.

You're the second person who made her a Cocker Spaniel, not bad...but I'm kind of leaning towards her being a long-haired Dachshund. I watched a lot of the old Disney shorts, and one had Pluto trying to charm this female dachshund (and got a shocking surprise at the end XD). I had two dachshunds before our Chihuahua puppy...they were good dogs, but taken from us too soon. Maybe being a Princess will keep Kairi safe from back problems.

I'm sorry to hear about your dogs! Small (and very large) dogs do tend to live shorter lives than the medium-sized ones...which is sad, but, any dog can be an amazing companion, no matter their size or lifespan. 
The real reason (although even I forget it, most of the time!) I went with a cocker spaniel (English) for Kairi is because of Nintendogs - I had a Shiba named Sora, a cocker spaniel named Kairi, and a German Shepherd named Axel. xD But I don't much like the faces on American Cocker Spaniels, so I went with the English one, out of preference.
I think I overuse spaniels for female characters, which might be Lady and the Tramp's fault, haha. xD I'm trying to get more variety for female characters now, but, I think I'd keep Kairi as a spaniel, for now. x3 I know the short you mentioned with Pluto and the Dachshund (I forget her name, now...is it Doxie? No, Dinah! Thank you, Google!). A Dachshund might work for Kairi, too!

I've kind of been fascinated with drawing dogs ever since I was very little! I use a lot of photos for reference, and watch a lot of movies about dogs (animated and live-action). I also have dogs around me for reference!

I have see your female Sora dog, and it's true that they look similar. But it's not a problem since he is really cute like this. X3 And there're not exactly alike too. I just find it nice when people doesn't assume that an animal form for Kairi have to be exactly the same as Sora as if they were twin.

Hey Nyaasu, I know you haven't gotten to read my notes yet (once you do, everything will make more sense!), and I know you won't be able to check them for a bit longer, but do you think you could help me out with these two quick questions?

I have some more, but if I could hear back on those it'd help a little! Don't want to spoil too much though.

Not sure about the health issues, I would assume less breathing issues because of the facial form of the English vs. the American, but, well, I'd just be guessing. x3
