Description While playing the amazing game of Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, I came across one enemy called a frost giant.  Similar to their distant-kin, the normal giant, a frost giant lives in the frigid tundra where not many critters can survive.  So this got me thinking about trying my hand at doing a classic "David versus Goliath" themed scene, where our hero stands against something far beyond what it seems he is capable of combating.

Here is the selected story, written by the awesome CherokeeGal1975

------------------------

It was all a misunderstanding.  The giant had been hunted before many times and was blamed for a lot of misdeeds he didn't do.  Believing the stories told about the giant, the hero goes to fight the giant and finally be rid of the nuance plaguing the villagers in the valley below the mountains.
When the warrior had finally found the giant, he was so intimidated by his size and fearsome appearance as he drew his sword, that he hesitated.  In that moment, the annoyed giant said, "Another one."
"Another one?" asked the warrior, taken aback.  He didn't even know the giant could talk.  All the villagers told him he did nothing but roar and snarl.
"Another idiot blaming me for their troubles below the mountain," grumbled the giant in a low bass rumble.  "No one listens to me.  I know who's doing the vandalism and the rash of thievery.  I can't come down from the mountain because it's too warm in the valley, but I have a magic mirror and it sees everything.  I try to tell the humans that come here to kill me, but they never listen.  I send them packing every time and they don't seem to realize I let them go with their lives on purpose.  So how about you?  Do you want to know the truth, or are you going to assume that I'm a liar and kill me anyway?"
The warrior was unconsciously letting his sword tip drop to the ground.  This creature didn't sound like a stupid slavering monster, just the opposite in fact.
"Um..." the warrior replied stupidly.  Then he shook himself mentally and did the only intelligent thing he could think of...and possibly the most risky.  He put his fire magic sword back into it's sheathe and did the one thing the others had not, take a leap of faith that the giant was not a liar and in spite of his monstrous appearance, was actually a good person.  "Alright, I'll give you a fair chance.  Who's been causing trouble in the valley?"
"A group of evil wizards who want to trick the people into thinking a monster is harassing the villages," the giant replied as he crossed his arms and settled into a wide stance.  He continued as he stared down at the man with his ice blue colored eyes, "There is a creature...an ice demon, summoned by the wizards themselves and being controlled by them.  They are the ones scamming the villagers into thinking that they must turn to them for help.  They get hired to take care of the problem and they do as they are hired to do for an enormous fee.  Other's who have seen the demon mistake him for me and hire warriors like you to try and kill me as a cheaper option than hiring the wizards.  Having never actually seen an ice giant, I suppose I can't blame them for the mistake."
"Really?" the warrior replied thoughtfully.  "Can I see this magic mirror?"
"Of course," the giant replied and produced it out of a crack in his side (he was made of ice and he had lots of little cracks on his body) he apparently used as a kind of pocket.
The mirror was surprisingly small, barley the size of an average dinner plate.  The giant handled it with more delicacy than the warrior would have believed possible for such a huge and powerful creature and faced to toward him.
Sure enough, the mirror glowed around the edges and then showed him the very information the giant had told him.  Knowing that magic mirrors can only show the truth, he had to finally agree that the giant wasn't the culprit.
"I'm sorry for your trouble," the warrior said as the mirror finished showing him everything and the giant put it back in the crack he used as a pocket.  "I'll go down and tell people the truth and hopefully no one will come here to hurt you again."
"Thank you," the giant rumbled with a grateful bow.  "Anytime you need my advice or the use of my mirror, please come again and I'll help you how I can."
"You're welcome," the warrior replied with an equally courteous bow of respect.  He'd never again assume that anything that looked like a monster was really...well... a monster.  He would give every individual a chance to prove themselves first, no matter what the species.
Then with parting words, the warrior traveled back down the mountain on a new twofold mission.  Spreading the truth about the ice giant who he had befriended and putting an end to the scam the very human wizards were pulling on the people of the valley below...

I love this mini-story a lot, because it adds a unique twist to what looks like an epic showdown.  Many thanks to CherokeeGal1975 for submitting this story.
