Description Pomegranate has long been called a beauty food, and there is an anecdote that Cleopatra and Yang gui fei have also been eating.
Now it is used for various foods and cosmetics.
However, I have heard that in Japan the taste of pomegranate is said to be a sinful taste.

I will never stop admiring your works. Never! And what an interesting topic
I have heard that in some cultures, pomegranates represent rebirth.
Maybe because pomegranate was also used by Hades to keep Persephone in the Underworld (she ate six pomegranate seeds).

I am reassured when I hear you say that! I’m so glad.

pomegranates represent rebirth?...Oh, I see. It is intriguing.
Hades! Yeah! When I submitted this work, I learned about the story of Hades.
I don't know much about myths, But sometimes I see he in the movie.

The myth goes, Hades abducted Persephone, the daughter of goddess Demeter (she was the goddess of nature). Persephone was picking up flowers, and Hades split the earth open, grabbed the girl and dragged her into the Underworld with him. At first, Persephone despised him, but grew to love him over time. Only when she ate those six pomegranate seeds, she chose to be his wife and stay with him. Pomegranates, in this case, symbolize her will to change from girl to a woman.

Demeter and the rest of the gods made a deal after this. Every six months, when Persephone leaves the Underworld to be with her mother, Demeter, on the surface of the world blossom spring and summer. But, whenever Persephone returns to her husband, and goes back to the Underworld, the autumn and winter affect all life on earth (mother is grieving for her daughter during her time with Hades).

Sorry for the longer comment! I just love that myth, and this gorgeous artwork made me think of it while looking XD

Oh! You are very familiar with myths!
From a Japanese perspective, the mythical world looks very beautiful and fantastic.
But I don't know all that.
I see!!! Thank you for teaching me!
I'm happy that you can imagine from my work!

I’m glad to hear that!

I fell in love with his hair at first sight~
When I first saw this picture, I thought it was a traditional art made on canvas and using acrylic paints~
I tasted raw pomegranate before and it was very sour ><
So in Japan, the taste of pomegranate is said to be a sinful taste?? Fascinating~

Sorry for replying so late!

Thank you! Friend!!!
I'm glad you like his hair! I wanted to draw curly hair for a while. Ehehe.
Wow! Did you eat pomegranate?!  Very sour? Oh! That's what I thought! ( I have never eaten.)
Sinful taste...However, this information is uncertain. It is not widely recognized and is information from Manga.
I read it as a kid, so I don't remember the title or content of the manga...

大丈夫ですよ〜

I want to learn from you how to paint hair. Your style is always very nice~
I've tried many hair-painting styles before but none of them gave satisfying results
Maybe you can give me some tips?   (I feel a bit embarrassed for boldly asking you that question haha   )

Yes, I tasted pomegranate when I was very young. It was very sour and my father laughed when he saw my facial expression that time
Oh I see~ It would be nice to have a chance to read that manga! I like to read manga a lot~ ^^

How to paint hair? Oh...I would like to ask the same thing. Ahaha.
Well...I'm trying a different way of drawing. Mainly changing the brush...
However, I can't draw as I wanted.
The next work is also trying a different way of drawing hair.

Ahahaha! I also wanted to see your face!
I can imagine you was so cute!

あ‥すみません‥ I reply very late as well

I see...so you use many kinds of brush for the hair. I usually use the normal round brush~
Maybe I should try other types of brush too (but it's difficult for me to use them )
Ahahahaha now I feel very embarrassed!

とにかく、あなたの次の絵、すぐにそれを見るのを楽しみにしています〜!

Fantastic Artwork! Philosophical aspect and emotions bended together with the wonderful art.

Here Pomegranate is also have some shade of "You want to be too beautiful" or "You want to feel/make yourself higher than others". Also a popular object of photo as there is a jem with exactly the same name

commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fil…

And I feel like the meaning of "Beauty" originated from here, as the color Red in Russian means "Beautyful" (Red->Красный, Beautiful->Красивый) and it never had the meaning of blood or love or whatever.

I am glad to always have a very interesting opinion from you. I’m full of gratitude.

I saw the gem you taught me.
Yeah! Its radiance is deep and red, reminiscent of pomegranate flesh. it's so beautiful.
The impression of red in Japan...passion...exaltation...Ummm...Recognized as a color that can not settle down.
I wanted to express an inner side that is different from his appearance that looks pure.

Thank you always!

NickColbe [2019-08-02 23:32:15 +0000 UTC]

He has a spaced out look, as known from older images of saints. And holy shit he is beautiful. He is very lascivious and thus all the more seductive. That the pomegranates stain the white chemise (innocence?) could really be a metaphor for sin. And the red juice on his pretty lips and chin looks salacious. Great work.

You can say everything I tried to express!!! Great!

I wanted to express his inner sinfulness that seems to be innocent.
I am glad that you always praised my picture work. Friend!

Ohhh...Thank you so much!!! That’s very kind of you to say that!
To tell the truth...I have never eaten pomegranate. Not sold to Japanese supermarkets.
That isn't to say I have never seen a pomegranate on a tree. Where? Hahaha.

You're very welcome!!
Oh really? Well I never eaten either but it was just because I never happened to eat. But I didn't know that they didn't sell it in Japan! Even if you haven't it's so magically done in your drawing ^^
(Curiosity: while in english the fruit is named "pomegranate", in portuguese it's simply "romã". Funny how short and different it is, right? )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nurumayu35 In reply to TheKikkaKibaz [2019-08-04 10:58:01 +0000 UTC]

romã...Oh, I see. In Japan it is the name of Zakuro.
The person who ate said that the fruit was sour.
It looks full of seeds and it is hard to eat?...sour?...I don't feel like eating. haha.
Thank you for teaching me.

This one is really beautiful and it reminds me of the myth of Hades and Persephone, where she was partially bound to the underworld, and had to return there for some months each year because she ate some pomegranate seeds Hades offered her. (I really didn't know about that Japanese belief about the pomegranate being sinful)

Your painting makes me think how easy it is for innocence to be tainted at some point.

I still loved it!!

You receive various ideas from a single picture I drew.
That is a great pleasure for me. Thank you so much!!!
This kind of impression about pomegranate is not famous in Japan.
Where did I get such an explanation?...A Manga I read when I was young...

Your nice comments will always make me happy.

Aw, you're welcome!!

Your paintings are interesting, so I like doing that, I like imagining the story behind them

What a kind and beautiful thing to say! I feel quite honored.
However, the next picture may not have a story. Next is a portrait by the breather a little.
I want to draw a game character with realistic style.

You're welcome!

That's quite alright, you don't have to always make art with a story behind it or a hidden message in it.

Just have fun with what you do, the character portraits you make are also very interesting, I love how realistic and lifelike you make them look .
