You've already met the cast of the first book. This is the main character of the second. He'd be Peter Isen's Great x5 Grandson and Lex Pendragon's Great x 41 Grandfather. (Yes, I do have the whole family mapped ... no, I'm not sure if I'm proud of that or not.)

Visually, this one is important because I really worried at the skin tone. It's not perfect, but it's getting better. If this was bigger you could probably even make out his faint freckles.

He's the last of the original Dragonblooded Kings. (That means they have certain advantages granted from when Peter's blood mixed with Dragon's when she died.) His gifts were impervious skin and the ability to understand any language spoken to him and have his words understood in the language of the listener.

Known to later generations as Vegetius the Great, the Kinslayer and the Traveling King, the story follows his journey across the continent, his experiences meeting all the Founders and brokering continent-wide peace. He finishes the work Peter began in book one and through his experience, the stage is set for the rest of the books. It will be more exposition, but those kinds of stories happen and a strong character is needed to carry it along. I couldn't think of anyone who would have been better for it.

That ring is pretty important as well. It's been worn by every Pendragon king after him. It was made for him by the Soul Forge of his era. Thousands of years and the destruction of their world will pass before anyone realizes his soul is in it. But that's another story for another time.

If you can't figure out which one is related, you aren't paying attention. That's the thing with the Pendragon family. All the men look alarmingly similar. The joke was made that if you put one of them in a room and let 49 artists see him for only a few seconds, each of them would paint someone a little different and they'd each accurately paint one of the kings.
