Description Aspidorhynchus sp. is a ray-finned fish that flourished in worldwide oceans during the Jurassic and Cretaceous. It probably lived a lifestyle similar to the modern barracuda but was more closely related to the modern freshwasher bowfin.
This reconstruction is part of series on the fish of the Jagua Vieja formation of Western Cuba (Oxfordian) for prof. Yasmani Ceballos Izquierdo.

Reminds me of a needlefish (I think that's what they're called).

Good thing I read artist descriptions, I wanted to ask if it was a precursor to swordfish with a snout like that. I found the slightly off focus fish just behind the in focus fish slightly confusing (could just be I'm easily confused ), but think the dof is cool. Also really like the attention to detail with t he different colours on the fish, strong black on the tail and the hint of yellow around where I presume the gills are and that charcoaly colour on the back and stomach (I think?). Maybe needs some slip stream or something to show movement, not that I would have a clue how to do something like that. Love your work as usual

Cool, so it would stab their prey or is it for defense purpose?
