Description I had a nice livestream session, in which I drew a totally random female warrior. I came up with the design on the fly as well, only part I had to take a look at some reference was the belt holding the scabbard. And naturally the armor is as useless as it can possibly be, but what it lacks in deflection, it more than makes up for in distraction.

Her name shall be Elsa Angelika. One person watching me came up with the surname, which I liked a lot. I forgot the name though, so if you happen to comment on this deviations so that I can give appropriate credit for you edit: the person is shadov19 , thanks for coming up with that name!

It took me quite a while to get the pose and body in place for some reason. I even redrew the pose few times. But well, I enjoyed the sketching phase so I don't mind that.

I was planning to draw more poses, but coming up with the design and rendering all the details took so much time that I didn't get to draw more poses. But well, I enjoyed drawing this so I don't mind that. I think I'll probably draw more of her on upcoming livestream sessions, though I won't promise anything.

I don't have a big knowledge of anime/manga, but the armor/bodysuit reminds me of the mech armor in the second and/or third saga of the old Robotech show. This is more revealing, of course, lol.

Well executed indeed, though I do wonder how she could possibly hope to fight in this?

Gosh dang that is some beautiful underboob. Underboob is hard to pull off, and you do MUCH MORE than pull it off. x3

This is really good! I love the pose, and I love the armor too! the armor looks so believably sturdy! it's really common to see armor in 2D artwork that looks too thin to actually offer any real protection, this one looks thic

I love the boots too!

The stream was definitely a pleasure to watch. I got some really useful insight into metal rendering, and I really like that technique you used from your inking practice, with the cross-hatching. It looks really good. I will be practicing using that technique!

My favorite part of the armor has to be the partial tasset on the waist. It looks really cool on the character, and the fact that it's only on one side is triple cool/style points xD Also, the sword's rendering is really interesting to me; I took notes!

Really awesome work! If you do draw her again, I'd imagine it'd be even better!

Thanks. It's good to hear that you could actually learn something from watching my livestream

I've been doing a lot of inking with pigment liners, and some ink jobs with technical pens at the university. Ink is my favorite medium, and I like how similar digital painting is to inking, with added capabilities to fix things with undo command!

Yeah, that waist armor thing looks really cool in my opinion as well. Note how the shading, or rather, the white reflection follow the surface of the plates, showing its angle and orientation in relation to the other parts.

My principle in metal rendering is the saying that "it's always the darkest before dawn". That said, the darkest parts are in the immediate vicinity of the highlighted areas.

Lol, "the observant one will always learn from what he sees".

So your traditional skills have been influencing your digital skills? All the more reason to put pen to paper, imo.

In essence, the shading helps spilt the armor into multiple planes. I think I can see it and how it fits into the whole!

I will keep that quote in mind... it also was in the dark knight movie, so it's easy to remember when drawing.

Fabulous!! I mean, yeah useless armor is useless but I can't deny that she looks good~ xD;;
I was only able to catch the ending of your stream but it was really interesting to watch you render this piece and figure out the values.
It's something I like to be able to do without constantly second guessing myself.
If you managed to record this session I'll check out the recording to see how you sketch. I like to see how you attempt poses; I didn't know why you drew cubes while you were doing the 26 pose challenge until I realized it was for the sake of perspective. I like discovering other artists' methods :3

Nsio In reply to BlackThornRose [2014-07-04 17:07:51 +0000 UTC]

At least it looks like there are almost the whole session recorded. The ending got sliced into short segments and I don't know whether there is something missing.

These days I like to draw in this way, only with black and white, and then maybe one gray for shading. Since I haven't been drawing colored works lately, I tend to draw my colored pieces in similar way as b&w, which causes few problems with the color job... ^^'

On that 26 viewing angles practice, I drew the cubes just to demonstrate the viewing angles. I didn't really use them for anything while I was drawing. I draw such a reference cube if I'm drawing backgrounds or scenery.

The higher the level of the armor, the less there is the actual armor. You can tell that it's a high level armor because it doesn't cover much! (MMORPG logic)

I added your name on the description

For some reason, I couldn't use :dev: or :icon: commands to properly link to your page. Now that I tried the very same command on this comment field, it worked... I didn't think it would be premium feature but seems so, as I just ran out of my premium and linking didn't work.

Or I just wrote it wrong, the ten times I tried to do so I don't know

I was actually going to comment about the cliched armor and then I read the description lol. Just curious, show do you accomplish drawing the straight line for the sword? A steady hand and practice or a line tool of some sort?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nsio In reply to streamtiem [2014-07-03 04:17:29 +0000 UTC]

Yep, the armor is totally random . I sketched the sword with "slow" stabilizing setting so that it would make straight line the moment I lift the pen tip. Later on I used vector lines to refine the look, but the edge facing upwards is still original hand drawn line.
