Description So here's a first, because I don't think I've EVER gotten two pieces up in the same day before.

But, this is one I've wanted to pay homage to for awhile. If you don't know, this is pretty much my version of the Betty Grable poster , but you SHOULD know that, because that's probably the most famous pin up photo of all time. The point of the photo was to show off her really famous legs, but I dunno, in my version my eyes are drawn a bit north of there. ^_^

Well,  I was planning on starting something different, and. . . I can't remember my train of thought any further. I was thinking of whether to show my next pinup from the front or back, or maybe both, and it just clicked in my head to do this. Although it was also freshly on my mind after seeing Seams  by mgelen , because it reminded me a lot of this photo.

As for the composition, well, I wanted to duplicate the poster as much as possible, but still make a little more interesting. So I added a period accurate kind of pattern to her bathing suit, and did a mockup of a calendar page because that's where you'd see a lot of these pin up girls back then. I picked a couple typefaces that were popular in the 1940s, and even looked up a 1943 calendar to make sure the dates were accurate. And I picked 1943 because that's when the original poster was made.

So, it was a quickie and simple, but I LOVE IT! I got to try a couple new things, and take on a new challenge in trying to get her hair right. I had to look up a few other 1940s women's hairstyles to start to get how those curls were meant to look, and then I had a much easier time reproducing it.

In fact, that's the best advice I can give aspiring artists: don't try to just duplicate what you see, try to figure out WHY it looks the way it does.

Very well done!  Not just the drawing, but the research done for the accuracy.
