Description Ocucajea picklingi -José Luis Pickling Zolezzi, 2011
Diet: Carnivore.
Size: 3 metres long & 250 kg.
Time Period: Bartonian of the Middle Eocene (41.3-38 M.y.a).

Region/Known location: Paracas Formation of the Pisco Basin-Peru.
Enemies/Rivals: The big lamniform shark: Otodus obliquus‭ (~9 metres long).

Ocucajea was propably the smallest member of the Basilosauridae family. This small cetacean lived in Peru during middle Eocene, in the same time most basilosaurids appeared. It lived alongside with-the also peruvian basilosaurid-Supayacetus, which had a similar size to Ocucajea. With that a small size it was an easy meal for the big predatory lamniform shark: Otodus. For an unknown reason Ocucajea is my favourite basilosaurid and that's why I decided to end 2018 with this small whale. Sorry for the bad quality.
