Description Here's another angle of my Kion sculpture. That tattoo was a pain in the ass! The hair was too, so many cow licks! I'm quite proud of how it turned out, though. We don't have much TLG merchandise here in Australia, plushies particularly are in short supply, so I figured: 'fuck it, I'll make one myself!'

This is amazing!
May I ask how much all the wool cost to make this? Wool is expensive where I live and something this big would require a lot of it, haha ^-^"

Thanks!
I pick up wool wherever I can, so I don't really keep track of cost. It's expensive here in Australia too (everything is!) The store I used to get it from; sold 100grams (I think) of this type of wool for about $12, and that was just for the roving, not including the colors. Since I don't have access to that store anymore, I buy it in bulk on eBay. It's good to look around, Etsy can also be a good source, though I've never used it myself.

Ah I see! Thank you for the tips!
I currently use eBay for most of my wool, as well as my local craft shop, though both seem quite expensive to me when I don't buy in bulk, haha ^-^"

how do you make the surface so smooth and flat on something so big? This is so beautiful, oh my gosh. I always have the scraggly hairs left behind.

The longer you felt it, the more solid and smoother the surface gets. It just requires persistence and patience

Wow that's cool! It would be so cool if one of the Disney workers hired you to make those sculptures and then was to make them available in stores such as maybe Disney stores or limited edition sculptures! Are you planning on doing a Fuli one? Just curious!

I find it pretty outstanding that you can make a Lion King character plush looking almost EXACTLY to it's animated counterpart! But, it must've been a bitch to make sure they don't look the same at all, I presume?

Thank you! But what exactly do you mean by the last part?

Was it hard for you get the characters in their respective style (Like NOT making Kion look the same as young Simba)?

Oh, I see what you mean now! And well, I actually used references of cub Simba for Kion's body shape (mainly the stomach and the legs). The animation in The Lion Guard makes their anatomy look weird and warped, so his body was heavily modeled after Simba. Kion's face and details however were directly inspired by the series, with some minor improvisations. So to answer your question, it wasn't particularly hard, it was better to get the best of both worlds rather than just sticking to one.

So how do YOU feel about Kion? In general, I mean.

While he's not my favorite TLK character, I like him fine. I certainly don't get the hatred he gets.

Though I do feel that he's not very realistic as child character, he's a bit too righteous and responsible for someone who is the equivalent of a 12 year old boy. But then again, he's from a show targeted towards very young children, so he was designed to be more of a role model than a fully developed character with childish flaws. Young Simba for example is a good character, but not a good role model; because he wasn't supposed to be. Kion's design doesn't strike me too much either, seems as though Simba has all the dominant genes when it comes to his kids. But at least Kion's design is better than Kopa's

I'm growing on Kion myself. I understand that there's a lot of hate going around him, especially people from my generation, 'cause we all grew up with Simba, Nala, Kiara, and Kovu. But there is a new and younger generation that has never had that certain 90's experience, and this is there "Lion King" there own "Simba, Nala, Kiara, and Kovu." Plus I can see Kion being canon, I can see him being born shortly after the song "We Are One" in TLKII, and Kiara may have grown and become smarter since then.

As for Kopa, um......I don't understand WHY he was created, it clearly just creates more drama in the fandom, and it kinda confuses the timeline. Unless it's a parallel universe!......Hm, that gives me an idea!
Anyway, Kopa's design could have looked a lot more creative, he looks too much like Simba, and not enough Nala.

Don't worry; I think the Guard mark is the best part. I like the fact that it looks blurry-almost like it's painted onto fur.
