Hi,This is an idea which i had for a menu. Mostly thinking of elementary slingshot menu.
What it has also is favorites to the left which can be expanded with a nice animation. You can add them to the dock or have theme there to launch them later if you don't want to have them in the dock.
Also when you press on a category the icons which are inside that category should expand with a nice animation.

Ooh I love the modern style solid colour bar at the top with a bit of opacity, darkening the wallpaper behind it
