The damaged spine bit, I think anyway, would be referring to how a manuscript doesn't have a binding. XD It's just peices of paper. Although it could also mean they'd been damaged, or, hurt, in the past..

Ordinarily, I don't like short poetry because it trails off into vagueland, but this says everything it needs to. And I like it because it reminds me of my boyfriend. Very nicely done.
