Description I think of this one as Anime meets reality. I’ve been trying to put together a portfolio of retouched photos and I always try to make my prints look as real as possible. With this piece I wanted to go in the other direction and make my subject look like a porcelain doll. I had a lot of fun doing it and hope you all like it but I’m open to all critiques.

Please view full size

BTW ...... I am looking for more photos to retouch, so if you have a HIGH quality photo that you would like me to retouch, let me know. I will do this as long as you give me permission to use it in my portfolio and display the before and after pics online. I will also send you a print or file if you prefer. The photo has to be of high quality though so don’t get upset if I turn it down.

She looks just like a porcelain doll. Thats amazing, even her hair looks like doll hair. It makes me wonder what kind of a bride a doll would make. I guess he wouldn't have to worry about her stealing the remote or eating the last piece of pizza.

This is done really well! The only thing that I could suggest is that when I think of porcelin I see a bit more shine. Not a lot but maybe a little brighter on the highlights to create more sheen. I tried it a little bit and I liked the result. I added a little to the length of her nose, the ridges of her upper lip just under her nose, put a little hot spot on her chin and one on her forehead near the top right (though that was a little trickier). The face then looked like you could tap it with you fingernail and hear that "clink" sound. It seemed to add a little more metallic look.

Of course, that's just my preference and I think that you deffinately pulled of the doll look really well here!

Noko In reply to fensterer [2006-07-20 02:17:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you and you are right. Funny you wrote this because the other day I printed it out and thought it needed to look a bit more porcelain like. I’m going to add more highlights and also whiten the face a bit more too. I actually decided to this because my first test print came out really off from what I had on my screen, it was way blue and contrasty but the face looked better that way. After 2 days of trying to calibrate my monitor I think I can now make the adjustments. Man I hate my LCD but the pro crts just cost to much.

Sorry starting to ramble, anyway thanks for the review its much appreciated.

No problemo! I to hate trying to calbrate my monitor! No matter what I do it's always too dark! I usually end up adjusting the levels on my computer at work! One of these days I'll get new one!

This is an outstanding piece of art. I would be honored to have you do a photomanip to a high res image. If you take a quick look at my gallery you may find something that you like or I shoot every few weeks and would be more than happy to tailor a shot. My model has a vast selection of clothes...especially dark gothic clothes, and couture noir items that I have not even shot yet. Let me know and perhaps we can make some interesting art.

excellent work and good idea but… something grains me a little: the eyes are artificial, but ... too much. I have the impression, not glance of headstock (glass eyes) but of a 3D rendering . Not very realistic compared to the direction of your work : “truths” false eyes!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Noko In reply to G666 [2006-07-17 17:09:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you ..... the irises of the eyes are made in photoshop and the rest of the eye is real. I understand what you are saying but that is the effect that I wanted, a cross between real and fake. I do appreciate you comment.

Thank you ..... the original photo you can see here [link] . The only thing that I added to this was the iris of the eye and the background and where generated in photoshop. btw you have one hell of a gallery and I added you to my watch list. I want to start exploring fantacy art and see how I do.
