Yes, I think they are spruces. The Harz is full of spruces because of the mining time.

I meant, how did the mining lead to augmentation of forest growth? I thought that when a place is mined, large ecological disaster follows :-/

Yes because of this, they planted spruces. And so we have much conifer forest here now. But I love it too! The dark, mystical forests
