It's not a matter of being "fixed", it comes down to production costs. I count 6-7 distinct colors on the original. No background palette, just the raw plastic, pink for the lips, brown for the eyelids and eyebrows, black for the pupils and eyelashes, what appears to be charcoal for the lower eyelid, green for the irises, white for the sclera, and maybe a shader for the sclera as well. In addition, there's very little precision needed for that application, easily mass produce-able with simple machines.
Now, even considering that these were likely made in China for pennies, having a much higher accuracy and color palette would drive up the cost, and only a handful of extreme hobbyists would take note. I say this as a person who considers himself an "extreme hobbyist" in a certain realm of toys, so there's no judgement in that statement, just a realization of the economic situation.
