Being a woman while on her period was even harder.

Not only was it physically taxing (menstruation, cramps, and head-splitting migraines), but it was also emotionally straining (PMS, mood swings, and sensitive beyond belief), and all the while you had to fit social conforms (acting sweet, cute, and oh-so-very happy-go-lucky) lest your entire femininity is called into suspect.

You considered yourself a very patient person.

You had to be, otherwise there was simply no way for you to be the Tsukishima Kei's girlfriend. You two had started dating not very long ago, and you were still getting used to his sharp tongue and even sharper attitude. You knew first hand how rude he could be, but he was startlingly sweet at times as well (only to you, but you didn't know that). You'd always admired the talented volleyball player from afar, so imagine your surprise when he actually accepted your confession!

However, there was most certainly a limit to how patient you could be.

And when that limit came, you snapped.

An ominous aura engulfed your person, and the entire volleyball team (coaches and managers included) shrunk behind the tall, nonchalant player with his arms crossed across his chest who was looking at you with raised eyebrows.

"Well, you're not usually this pissy-pissy, so it's natural to warn off my team that you're particularly excitable this time of the month, isn't it?"

The air dropped ten degrees. Celsius. (Not Fahrenheit, no. That would be too little).

At this point, the team had abandoned their hiding spot behind Tsukishima and were clawing their way towards the gym doors, still trying to maintain as small of a presence as possible.

Your eyes narrowed dangerously, and you began to slowly stalk towards the blonde, temperature dropping steadily around you and the ominous aura growing even darker.

"I have horrible headaches and cramps."

At this point, the blonde was starting to look uncertain.

"My entire body is pumped full of hormones."

He was beginning to understand his mistake.

"I have to walk around all day with something shoved between my legs to make sure that I don't bleed everywhere."

Now, he was paler than a sheet.

"And all you can say is that I'm excitable?"

At this point, you were directly in front of him, glaring upwards at his taller frame. However, that did nothing to diminish your intimidation. Tsukishima was a male, and all males, regardless of species, knew instinctively when they went. too. far.

You jabbed a pointer finger to his chest, fury sparking in your eyes, and Tsukishima fear started to kindle in his chest (surely you wouldn't... break up with him, would you?!). Suddenly, your entire attitude took a 180 spin and tears began to water in your eyes. By now, that fear was full-blown terror as he wondered if you would throw something at him or cry on him.

(he honestly did not know which one was worse.)

"You..." You sniffled, "You're such a jerk!"

With that, you spun on your heel and fled the gym.

The entire gym was frozen even after you had left the scene. Slowly, almost like clockwork, they turned to stare at the blonde, who was still in shock and standing exactly where he was before and not moving a single muscle.

They stared at him.

He blinked.

As if someone had smashed together cymbals, the entire gym was thrown into chaos.

"Holy shit, [Name] is scary." Kageyama whimpered.

"Oh god..." Hinata moaned, "She's going to stop helping out our team. Oh my god. What do we do if she stops bringing us those cute bentos and delicious snacks and oh god."

"Tsukki, you have to fix this." Yamaguchi was standing in front of Tsukishima at this point, taking him by the shoulders and shaking him.

Tsukishima had broken out of his stupor, and he shoved away the other male with a scowl on his face. "Well, what the hell do you want me to do? It's already a miracle she didn't break up with me. If I chase after her now..." He trailed off, shudder wracking his body.

"She'll cry on you, get mad at you, vent her feelings, and feel better." Sawamura, the ever-caring captain, reasoned. "Thus, you'll take the brunt of her anger, and she'll spare the rest of the team."

The team nodded in comprehension. Choruses of "Good idea!" and "That makes sense!" echoed around the room.

The next thing Tsukishima knew, he was thrown out of the gym, doors slammed shut and locked behind him.

Tsukishima wandered around the school for a good ten minutes. He knew you hadn't left yet, because your bag was still in the gym, but he also had no idea where you might be hiding. He'd already checked the library (he knew you liked reading for comfort), the cafeteria (you also tended to eat a lot when you were upset), and the courtyard (he really didn't know why. he just walked out there and tried looking for you), but you were no where in sight.

Suddenly it hit him.

Of course. You always went up to the rooftop whenever you were upset. You claimed the light breeze up there and pretty view of the school helped clear your mind. Shaking his head at his late realization, he climbed the stairs that would lead him directly up to the roof, and hopefully, straight to you.

Lo and behold, you were there.

You were leaning against the railing—shoulders trembling ever so often with every quiet sniffle, chest heaving with every hiccup—and your hair became more and more disheveled as you ran a shaking hand through it agitatedly. Your eyes were pink and slightly swollen, confirming his fear that you had been crying.

You hadn't noticed him yet.

Tsukishima awkwardly cleared his throat, and you jumped at the sudden sound. Whipping around, you stared at him, watching in surprise as he handed you a handkerchief, all the while avoiding your eyes.

"Here." He said gruffly, looking to the side. "You... You look like you need to blow your nose."

You hesitantly took the pro-offered item and blew your nose with it, not caring that you sounded disgusting and gross, and that you probably looked disgusting and gross as well.

"Kei..."

The boy perked up when you referred to him by his first name. That meant you weren't mad at him anymore, right?!

That hope was dashed to pieces when your lip started to wobble, signifying a sob fest was soon to come.

Indeed, you threw yourself at him, latching your arms around his waist in a death grip, nearly knocking him over with your momentum.

"I'm so sorry!" You wailed, "I'm such a bad girlfriend. I yelled at you. I look disgusting. I'm fat, I'm ugly, I'm mean, I'm grouchy, and, and, and—"

Tsukishima had never felt such terror before. Inwardly panicking and slowly losing oxygen with how tightly you were gripping him, he honestly thought he might faint.

"There, there." He choked out, patting the top of your head like you were dog of some sort.

It did nothing to subside your howling.

"Aw shit, what do I do?" He muttered to himself. Clearing his throat, he soothed awkwardly, "Uh, it's fine? I still like you even if you are fat, ugly, mean, and grouchy...?" The words came out like a question. Fuck, why did he let them come out as a question?

You sobbed even louder, pitch raising an octave.

Tsukishima shut his mouth, deciding that speaking would only make things worse. He held you silently, stiffly running his hands through your hair, untangling the mess.

Gradually, your wailing and howling waned to sporadic hiccups and sobs, which subsequently slowed to ragged breathing and soft sniffles. Tsukishima let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding, and his awkward and stiff hold relaxed to a more comfortable one.

"I'm sorry." You mumbled into his soaked shirt. "I'm okay now. I think."

In a moment of rare affection, Tsukishima kissed the top of your head, briefly taking a whiff of the fragrance that wafted off your hair.

"It's okay." He muttered back. "It was my fault as well. I should have been more sensitive."

You laughed quietly, the sound coming out a little breathy because of your stuffed nose and exhaustion from your sobbing. Your voice had returned to its normal pitch and took on a teasing lilt. "The Tsukishima Kei? Being sensitive? I think the world might end."

Tsukishima didn't say anything, arms just tightening their hold around you, partly in fear that you'd blow up at him again and partly because he was just relieved you hadn't broken up with him or done anything drastic. He'd much rather take your teasing than you leaving him.

The two of you stood there for a couple more minutes, just basking in each others presence, arms wrapped tightly around each other.

"Ne, Kei."

"Hmm?"

"...you don't actually think I'm fat or ugly, do you?"

He froze.

"Right?!"

Warning bells went off in his head when you stared up at him, aghast.

He knew he should say something. That you were perfectly fine in terms of build (which you were) and you looked beautiful (despite your puffy eyes and bright red nose), but his mouth seemed to lock up and refuse to cooperate in his panic.

You burst into tears again.
