I think you're right about well-known critters. Which is, I also think, drawing or otherwise visually representing humans is so very - challenging. We're *wired* to recognize each other, note & record individuals, and detect minute departures from the norm.
The latter is, I think, a vital survival trait: making it possible to spot illness or injury in a member of the group while it is still (perhaps) treatable. It also gives artists a very high bar. An interesting one, though.

Exactly. And we have been trained to make snap judgments on what people look like immediately when we see them (whether thats good or bad is another discussion). So anything that might seem off can make you even feel disgusted with it haha.
